At G&T our Infrastructure & Major Projects work is split across 3 key sub teams:
 
  • Procurement & Supply Chain (P&SC): The role of our P&SC team is to provide commercial support to a project. As an intern you will be assisting with large data sets, collaborating with stakeholders to understand their business objectives, participating in team meetings for procurement, and more. 
  •  Infrastructure Management Services (IMS): The IMS team at G&T plays a central role in delivering complex programmes with clarity, confidence, and value. As an intern you will be assisting with project schedules, developing an understanding of the principles of estimating and cost management, assisting with risk management tasks, producing technical reports, and more. 
  • Cost & Consultancy (C&C): The role of our C&C team is to help clients understand, manage, and control the costs of their projects from the very beginning to the very end. As an intern you will be assisting with cost management and project management tasks such as preparing project schedules, tracking costs, taking minutes in meetings, and more.
 
Across the three teams we have four core disciplines, which are as follows:
  • Project Management
  • Cost Management 
  • Project Controls
  • Procurement & Supply Chain Management
 
Over the course of the 9-week internship, you’ll gain exposure to each of these teams, allowing you to develop a broad understanding of infrastructure delivery and consultancy. This structure is designed to provide a balanced experience across the different disciplines,helping you build core skills, professional relationships, and insight into real-world projects in a fast-growing sector.
 
Role Overview:
 
As an Intern, you will be enrolled into the G&T Industry Insights Programme which will provide you with an understanding of all the roles available within our Infrastructure & Major Projects teams. 
 
You will be assisting your team with various aspects of daily project work as requested by your supervisor, working with a certain level of independence to complete tasks, while also knowing when to discuss and ask questions to ensure the best outcome. 
 
The role will be varied, and the actual experience gained will be varied across each sector you will be working in. Those interns who excel throughout the placement will be offered the opportunity of sponsorship for their ongoing studies and an opportunity to return to the firm for further experience/a role on successful completion of their current studies. 

General Responsibilities

In addition to the above team specific responsibilities and In conjunction with your line manager the internship will typically include experience of the following 
 
  • Attending site meetings – depending on stage of project either design team meetings progress meetings with the contractor and project team
  • Liaise with contractors, suppliers, and consultants to support project delivery and attend project meetings and taking minutes
  • Working directly with project managers to help implement the project contract and help monitor the change control processes.
  • Providing administrative support to the team to help them perform tasks quickly and accurately  
  • Supporting the team in preparing a project schedule.
  • Assist with Cost Planning & Estimating - Support the preparation of cost plans including measurement and help analyse material, labour, and overhead costs for construction projects.
  • Assist in preparing interim valuations and final account settlements
  • Understanding and insight into the client’s needs
  • Support Tendering & Procurement - Participate in preparing tender documents and evaluating contractor bids. 
  • Assisting the team in compiling contract documents
  • Assisting in data collection, development and analysis to enable decision-making and goal setting 

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • Genuine interest in infrastructure and major projects 
  • Good A-Level grades or equivalent 
  • Excellent communication skills 
  • Ability to work to deadlines  
  • Ability to work as part of a team  
  • Excellent working knowledge of current IT systems 
  • Understand the importance of client care & relationships 
  • Trustworthy and reliable
  • Ability to prioritise work efficiently
