Responsibilities
This employment opportunity is restricted to Nunavut Inuit who reside in Rankin Inlet only.
Reporting to the Principal of the Maani Ulujuk Ilinniarvik School, the purpose of this position is to maintain a safe, secure, comfortable and sanitary school. By doing this, the custodian helps to create a positive learning environment for students and pleasant working environment for school staff.
The Custodian has the responsibility of maintaining a sanitary and safe environment for the students and staff of the school. In doing so, the custodian plays a significant role in maintaining the operations and functionality of the school and supporting a learning environment that is conducive to student success.
The Custodian will ensure that the building is ready for occupancy each day, ensure the building is secured at the end of each school day, maintain a clean and safe environment on a daily and weekly basis, assist with supply and basic maintenance and operation of the building, ensuring the school is safe and secure. The custodian will also carry out specialized summer cleaning.
Qualifications
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a grade 6 education or possess equivalent life experience, knowledge of how to properly handle and dispose of hazardous materials, skilled in the use of cleaning equipment, ability to do physical labor and must be able to complete the WHMIS course for certification. This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land,Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
