Irving Shipbuilding is seeking at Junior Engineer, Mechanical (Tooling & Equipment) in Halifax, NS

The Junior Engineer (Tooling and Equipment) can design, improve, and plan the tools, and equipment needed for quality and efficient ship construction and repair ensuring they meet specification and regulatory requirements.  In this position the Jr Engineer will provide technical support and lead projects and tasks supporting the Tooling and Equipment Department daily operation ensuring production requirements are fulfilled.  The Role will additionally be responsible to analyze business trends, manage assigned task and project budgets, develop custom reporting and identify opportunities and recommend changes to improve efficiencies and cost savings. 


 

Responsibilities

•    Lead tasks and projects supporting Tooling and Equipment team daily operations to meet and exceed our internal customer expectations.
•    Demonstrate knowledge of manufacturing and build processes and Standardize HSL equipment to support production needs. Develop engineered standards through work measurement systems and reporting accuracy. 
•    Actively liaise with the vendor industry to test new and improved tooling and equipment to realize efficiency and cost savings. 
•    Ensure ISI equipment meets applicable codes, standards, and regulations
•    Monitor and maintain budgets
•    Provide support to any tooling and equipment related needs (hydraulic, ventilation, industrial gas, mechanical equipment, welding, etc.) 
•    Engage with production teams, sponsors and stakeholders leading Project management activities of various equipment and technical projects from conceptual design to commissioning and start-up. 
•    Capital Equipment Purchases: Sustain positive performance ensuring quality and delivery, developing budgets and timelines, coordinating logistics/installations/commissioning & training, complete equipment handovers to maintenance team, communicate effectively, demonstrating positive results
•    Perform analytics and reporting analysis of inventory, trends, and operational processes to identify opportunities and recommend changes to improve cost & efficiencies which will support long term strategy
•    Lead or support various business initiatives including: Facility, design and deliver Continuous improvement projects within the production environment for tooling and equipment, Developing equipment standards for the use of tools and equipment
 

Qualifications

•    Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering.
•    Ability to interpret technical concepts, drawings, and specifications.
•    Proficient in MS Office and strong technical literacy.
•    Ability to qualify as an Engineer in Training with Engineers Nova Scotia. 
•    Demonstrated experience in a project management role and a history of proven change management capabilities. 
•    Experience in an industrial environment. Knowledge of naval design and construction methods considered an asset.
•    Ability to work independently and or with multi-disciplined teams of people.
