Job Description:

A Postdoctoral Researcher position is available in the interdisciplinary research group focused on radiation physics, microdosimetry, and mechanistic and data-driven modeling to advance radiotherapy research in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Louisiana State University lead by Dr. Marta Missiaggia. The position involves developing and applying experimental and/or computational approaches to investigate radiation quality effects, biological responses, and patient outcomes. Projects may include:

  • Microdosimetric characterization of different radiation fields relevant for therapy.
  • Development of biophysical or machine-learning models for predicting normal tissue toxicities.
  • Investigation of secondary cancer risks in chest-irradiated pediatric populations.
  • Integration of voxel-based dose and microdosimetry/LET data for predictive modeling.

The specific research direction will be tailored to the candidate’s background and interests within the overall goals of the group. The position provides opportunities for collaboration with national and international institutions, conference participation, and mentoring of graduate students.

Responsibilities: Conduct experimental and/or computational research in microdosimetry and radiobiology (40%); Develop and apply data analysis or ML-based predictive models using patient datasets (30%); Prepare manuscripts, reports, and conference presentations (15%); Collaborate with team members and assist in mentoring graduate and undergraduate students (10%); and Support grant writing and proposal development (5%).

Minimum qualifications: Ph.D. in Physics, Medical Physics, Biomedical Engineering, Radiation Biology, or a related field.

Preferred qualifications: Proficiency in data analysis using one or more of the following: R, Julia, Python, Matlab, or similar tools.
