INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY
Incumbents in this position are responsible for operating heavy equipment in the installation, repair, and maintenance of the city’s water and wastewater system. This position is assigned to pay grade G12.
Position Duties
- Operates heavy equipment and transports equipment.
- Maintains and mows right of ways, outfalls, and easements, and may be required to work in tight confined areas.
- Operates heavy equipment while working from crane and logging mats.
- Repairs water leaks on large diameter pipes along with the installation of temporary bypass pumping equipment.
- Assists in the heavy construction of water and sewer point repairs.
- Inspects sanitary sewer and water lines, manholes, air relief valves, pilings, etc.
- Establishes safe work zones, including traffic control devices; flags traffic as needed.
- Repairs landscaping.
- Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment through daily routine maintenance on equipment before operation.
- Completes daily logs, paperwork, and work orders.
- Completes work to minimize the impact of our water and sewer on the environment and the public.
- Completes required annual safety training requirements
- Performs other related job duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Six (6) months of construction work experience including operating heavy equipment or any related work field.
- NC Grade 1 Collections preferred.
- Requires a valid State of North Carolina Class “A” CDL Driver’s license. If not valid, must obtain within one (1) year of hire.
