About the Department

Under the close supervision of the Finance Manager, will work closely with Governmental Accountants in supporting 39 departments across Kent District Library, while applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) set by Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).

Position Duties

  • ·Assist with daily accounts payable and cash receipts

  • Assist with monthly and year-end account and bank reconciliations.

  • Assist with year-end adjustments

  • Assist with audit prep and field work requests

  • Gain meaningful accounting experience working in the public sector

  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications


  • Must be a high school graduate and enrolled in a Bachelor’s Degree Program in Accounting, Finance or related field at minimum in sophomore standing.
  • Ability to work with numbers and details, including knowledge of arithmetic, statistics and their application.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills necessary to interact with a wide variety of Library personnel, vendors, government agencies and others. Must be able to demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to perform work under Finance Manager's direction with latitude for judgment in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Computer skills necessary to effectively utilize accounting, spreadsheet, work processing, database and other applicable software applications.
  • Visual acuity necessary to view a computer screen and written materials.

Other Qualifications

  • Generally will work within a normal office environment, with minimal discomfort due to extreme temperatures, dust, and noise.
  • Occasional exposure to out of doors during programming and outreach events.
  • Work hours may be varied, including evenings and weekend hours.
  • Frequent sitting/standing in one position for extended periods of time.
