Job Title: Emergency Department Registered Nurse (ED RN)
Shift: 1100-2330, Weekends and Holidays per collective barganing agreement
Job Summary:
The ED RN is responsible for delivering high-quality, patient-centered care in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment. This role requires strong critical thinking skills, the ability to remain calm under pressure, and a commitment to delivering excellent care to patients with a wide range of urgent and emergent medical needs.
Key Responsibilities:
· Provide rapid assessment and treatment to patients in emergency situations.
· Triage patients based on acuity and initiate appropriate nursing interventions.
· Administer medications, start IVs, and perform advanced life support procedures.
· Monitor and record patient vital signs and clinical data.
· Collaborate with physicians, specialists, and other healthcare providers.
· Assist with diagnostic testing and emergency procedures (e.g., EKGs, intubation, wound care).
· Educate patients and families on care plans, discharge instructions, and health maintenance.
· Maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
· Respond to code situations (e.g., Code Blue, Rapid Response) and actively participate in resuscitation efforts.
· Ensure compliance with hospital policies, safety protocols, and infection control standards.
Qualifications:
· Required:
o Active RN license in New York State
o Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN); BSN preferred
o BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months)
o TNCC, ENPC, NRP (or equivalent) and ABLS within one year of hire.
o CEN, CCRN, or Passing of Critical Care exam within 3 months of hire.
· Preferred:
o CEN or CCRN Certification
o Experience with trauma, cardiac, or pediatric emergency care
o Minimum 1 year of clinical experience in acute care or ED setting
Skills and Abilities:
· Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills
· Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
· Ability to work effectively in high-stress, fast-paced environments
· Proficient in electronic medical records and emergency equipment
· Team-oriented with a focus on patient safety and quality care
· Strong emotional intelligence, including the ability to manage stress, show empathy, communicate effectively, and respond appropriately in sensitive or high-pressure situations.
Work Environment:
· Requires physical stamina and emotional resilience
· May involve handling combative or distressed patients
· Exposure to infectious diseases, hazardous materials, radiation, and emotional situations
· Requires standing, sitting, and walking for extended periods
· Direct patient and family contact
· Exposure to latex
· Use of electrical equipment
· Exposure to chemicals/solutions specific to the department (Refer to M.S.D.S. Manual)
