The full-time starting salary is normally £38,050.00 per annum, with progression available in post to £44,131.00 per annum.

The Student Inclusion Team provides advice, information and support to disabled applicants and students, and works with Schools and other professional services to provide an accessible and inclusive environment. We are seeking a full-time, permanent Dyslexia Advisor. The role will suit someone with a strong interest in disability and equality in higher education (HE), with significant experience of screening students in HE for dyslexia, implementing support and enabling an inclusive learning environment.
Working alongside Disability Advisors and a range of experienced professionals in the team, you will co-ordinate our dyslexia screening service, input into decisions about individual diagnostic referrals and liaise with diagnostic professionals, manage a caseload, and liaise with disabled students' support workers and external stakeholders. You will also provide advice, consultancy and training to colleagues.
There will be an opportunity a mixture of campus-based and home-based working - 3 days minimum required on campus.
The primary responsibilities of this role are:
- Assist the Disability Support Manager in developing and maintaining our screening and diagnostic referral service to identify students who may have dyslexia.
- Assist the Disability Support Manager in the co-ordination of the recruitment, selection, training and induction of dyslexia support and study skills tutors.
- Manage a caseload of students.
- Monitor appropriate service standards and, with the Disability Support Manager, ensure compliance with both legal requirements and the demands of best practice.
- Develop appropriate and effective ways of communicating with students, staff and other stakeholders about dyslexia, including training and awareness sessions aimed at staff.
- Provide advice and support for disabled students other than, or in combination with, dyslexia, as required.
The essential requirements for the role include (please refer to job description for full details):
- Educated to degree level or equivalent.
- Level 5 qualification in Specific Learning Difficulties.
- Significant experience of assessing need and providing advice and one-to-one support to adults with SpLDs within a professional setting.
- Experience of managing a significant caseload and accurate record keeping.
- Experience of providing customer-facing services.
- Experience of delivering training to staff.
- Knowledge of enabling technology and software programmes helpful for people with SpLDs.
- Knowledge and understanding of study skills support and techniques for students with SpLDs.
- Knowledge of current disability and equality legislation.
