About the Department
Reporting to the Director of the Learning Commons and FLY Program, the Assistant Director of the Learning Commons Tutoring Services provides leadership for learning center tutoring including the Math & Stats , Course-Based Tutoring, the Writing Hub, and other learning center services. The Assistant Director hires, trains, and supervises professional staff including a Tutoring Coordinator and Math Specialist as well as graduate student employees, and undergraduate student employees manages the College Reading & Learning Association learning center certification; coordinates services with campus constituents; carries out assessment activities related to programs and services.
Position Duties
- Responsible for design, delivery, and assessment of tutoring services offered by the Learning Commons (Math & Stats, Course-Based, and the Writing Hub); train, supervise, and evaluate Tutoring Coordinator and Math Specialist (administrative staff) and hire, train, supervise, and evaluate graduate and undergraduate student employees; conduct regular meetings and trainings for student employees; foster a learning center environment conducive to learning; maintain learning center resources for employee and student use; promote tutoring services; manage software and technology for documenting tutoring appointments.
- Maintain regular communication with faculty, staff, and other campus partners to support student success through tutoring services offered by the Learning Commons; ensure services are able to meet academic departmental needs; attend appropriate meetings supporting student success.
- Collaborates with the Director and Senior Learning Specialist to ensure students participating in the FLY Program receive tutoring support including 1:1 tutoring, group tutoring, and access to the Math Specialist; position will also coordinate tutoring efforts with other Learning Specialists.
- Provide oversight and management for learning center certification through the College Reading & Learning Association (CRLA).
- Attends and participates in relevant academic support service trainings, meetings, and professional development opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications
The following Degree is required:
- Masters Degree. Degree must be conferred at time of application.
The following Experience is required:
1 year of demonstrated successful supervisory experience
1 year of demonstrated responsible management experience
3 years of experience working in an academic support program
Other Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Knowledge of best practices and processes for learning centers and tutoring methodologies.
- Knowledge of learning styles and academic support methods.
- Demonstrated ability to work with a wide variety of people with broad backgrounds and experiences
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to determine program outcomes and assessment measures to ensure quality of academic support services.
