Longwood Gardens is seeking an Associate Director of Event Production to support our Production section of Event Operations. The Associate Director of Event Production will work closely with the event managers, technical staff, vendors, and clients to ensure the seamless planning and execution of live events across multiple venues. This role balances hands-on technical oversight with administrative, logistical, and leadership responsibilities. Responsibilities include:
- Overseeing technical planning and execution for all events, including audio, lighting, video, rigging, staging, and power distribution
- Collaborating with Event Operations Managers and leads to develop show schedules, labor calls, and production logistics
- Serving as lead technical contact for select events—advancing shows, coordinating with clients, and supervising on-site execution
- Reviewing technical riders, design event setups, and ensure proper staffing and equipment allocation
- Supervising and supporting technical staff and crews during load-in, show calls, and load-out
- Managing the event production full-time and part-time staff
- Maintaining high standards of safety, professionalism, and technical excellence across all production departments
- Monitoring equipment condition and coordinating repairs, upgrades, and rentals
- Supporting the training and mentoring of junior production staff across disciplines
- Ensuring adherence to production budgets, timelines, and client expectations
- Interfacing with vendors and contractors for special equipment or custom production elements
- Supporting venue operations and capital projects related to technical infrastructure
- Participating in post-event evaluations and department strategy meetings
We are looking for an experienced event production professional with broad technical knowledge in audio, lighting, video, rigging, and stage management, as well as experience managing crews and overseeing complex technical operations.
- A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in live event production, technical direction, or stage management
- Proficiency in at least two technical disciplines (audio, lighting, video) and strong working knowledge of the others
- Demonstrated experience managing teams and leading show operations in high-pressure environments
- Familiarity with digital mixing consoles, lighting systems, video playback/switching gear, and rigging practices
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills; able to communicate effectively with clients, artists, and crews
- Able to lift 50lbs, work at heights, and maintain a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Degree or certification in live production, or a related field is a plus
