Financial Markets (FM) is the Bank’s gateway to the professional markets around the world. Our primary function is to serve the needs of ING’s clients with products, services, and guidance. FM aims to be a significant player in our market leader and challenger markets, with an additional presence in all the major international markets and specialist expertise in selected emerging markets and products.

Your role & work environment 

Within EMEA, the UK is an important country, where we have a clear ambition to grow our WB and therefore FM activities.

As Head of the team, you are responsible for managing the UK as a corporate sales location. You will set direction, maintain, and grow ING clients and revenue streams. Stakeholder management and a deep knowledge of the financial markets to offer best-in-class coverage to our sector teams as well as to our demanding UK client base.


As Head of Corporate Sales for the UK, you will locally report to the head of FM Sales UK. Functionally, you will report to the head of corporate sales EMEA.

Your profile

You are a leader with strong analytical and communication skills. You have a degree, post-grad preferred, in Economics or related study and/or CFA and at least 12-15 years of work experience in Capital and/or Financial Markets environment. You have proven to be successful in interacting comfortably with senior management as well as all relevant functions in a Wholesale Banking environment. You have excellent interpersonal skills, multicultural awareness, and sensitivity. Furthermore, you are resilient and perform well under pressure. You are expected to embrace and adhere to the ING values, and it is evident for you that your behaviour is fully aligned with them.

Your key responsibilities

  • You are the senior originator in developing the financial markets client relationships for ING at the Executive (CFO/Group Treasurer) level, thereby creating higher value opportunities for ING to service their clients.

  • As desk head, you will manage and develop a team of dedicated cross asset sales specialists. We are looking for a player/coach type of profile that is also able to contribute individually.

  • You will personally focus most on developing the corporate franchise, yet you have a genuine interest for/affinity with the wider business of FM clients and how this translates into needs for FM products.

  • Your team continuously identifies, proposes, and implements innovative or alternative ideas to improve the customer journey and/or the ING WB value proposition, and is pivotal when developing new businesses or thought solutions

  • You have proven experience and understanding of the Financial Markets, including their risk and distribution channels, and a track record of executing complex transactions across the full product range. 

  • You will establish collaborative and effective partnerships with Execution Sales and Client Solutions Group Sales teams to embed the solutions culture and efficient execution delivery

  • You will actively contribute to the development and implementation of the overall business and people strategy and ING business principles, including ING's Orange Code.

  • You act as an ambassador for ING and cooperation within the WB. 

  • You have a track record of identifying strategic opportunities to improve business and technology performance, operations, and risk management.

  • You keep abreast of the technological and regulatory changes that are impacting the industry and facilitate an innovative culture to bring about changes necessary to compete effectively in the Financial Markets.

  • You will ensure that the business operates with an acceptable risk tolerance and is fully compliant with regulatory requirements at all times.

As a Head of Corporate Sales UK, you will also need: 

  • A university degree in econometrics, business economics, financial engineering, and/or CFA or equivalent academic background

  • 10+ years of relevant working experience in the financial services sector

  • You have an existing network and solid reputation amongst other international banks active in financial markets

  • Strong knowledge of financial market products (swaps, forwards, options in various asset classes) and international finance (debt capital markets, M&A); knowledge of hedge accounting and financial risk management is considered a plus

  • Proven track record in originating, structuring and executing derivatives products and executing complex deals with a strong understanding of the risks related to the underlying products

  • Balanced IQ/EQ, the ability to listen with an open mind, and the strength and integrity to be firm under pressure to stand up to senior management

  • Strong leadership with a proven track record in managing teams in making a positive impact on the organization

  • Communicator with the ability to connect people and business by building bridges with internal FM sales, sector, and CMA colleagues, to drive FM cross-buy opportunities.

  • Strong quantitative, financial, and analytical skills. Affinity with legal documentation is a plus

  • Entrepreneurial and commercial drive; an ambassador for change. Contribute to change initiatives with impact for the overall organization

  • Demonstrated track record of collaborating with different stakeholders with end-to-end experience in new product delivery

  • Knowledge of the regulatory requirements and governance is a must

  • Demonstrate Orange Code values and behaviours
