Overview & Responsibilities
Primary Function
To set up and operate 5-axis equipment including multi-axis mills and lathes, friction stir welding equipment, pallet changing automation software and pallet changing system, a variety of turning, boring, facing, milling, grooving, slotting, keyway machining, and all required set up of pallet changing equipment for finished milled component parts for turbines, compressors, pumps, expanders, or any Elliott manufactured parts.
Tools & Equipment
CNC Multi-Axis Mills and Lathes, pallet changing system, VTL’s, milling machines. Various cutting tools and measuring devices such as micrometers, dial indicators, depth gages, blocks, clamps, shims, fixtures, small hand tools, lubricants, jib hoists, overhead crane, fork lift truck, or any other material handling equipment, pedestal tool grinders, deburring, polishing and finishing tools, steel stencils, keyway cutters, polishing arbors and materials, keyseating cutters, tool setting equipment, and measuring devices.
Working Procedure
1. Receives direction from management.
2. Each operator functions by reviewing the daily workload schedule directives which specifies:
a. The machines’ Preventive Maintenance Plan (PM)
b. The part to be machined.
c. The part to set-up
d. The tooling requirements for all scheduled parts.
e. The next part to be machined
3. Working from the above information, interprets prints, drawings, (part or tool) and sketches and instructions.
4. Performs all necessary set-up operations by installing and adjusting tools, clamps and fixtures, part positioning or alignment and maintaining proper feeds and speeds.
5. Performs all necessary machining operations, either in a controlled N/C mode or manually.
6. Performs all part verification requirements, including Data Sheets.
7. Performs all tool setting requirements.
8. Performs all planned PM requirements.
9. Plans and performs all necessary tooling, set-up hardware and measuring gages to manufacture the next scheduled part.
10. Utilizes DNC network.
11. Performs all layout functions to prepare parts for manufacture (angles, radii, tapers, bolt circles, center punch marks on material, etc).
12. Obtains drawings, tools and fixtures from Tool Crib or necessary materials from stock while maintaining the department tooling inventory.
13. Monitors all machine tool functions.
14. Stencils or stamps part for identification.
15. Reports defective material and equipment to appropriate Management personnel.
16. Verifies accuracy of micrometers as required.
17. Checks part to ensure that operation is completed.
18. Deburrs as necessary.
19. Uses grinding attachments as required.
20. Rebuilds, adjusts, changes and dresses tools as required.
21. Operates tap disintegrator as required.
22. Uses hoist and crane as required.
23. Uses fork lift truck and other material handling equipment as required.
24. Maintains good housekeeping.
25. Observes all safety rules.
26. Reports production count, time and identifying data as required.
27. The operator(s) will use established processing methods or procedures to manufacture parts and operate the system. Routine shift decisions to continue machining components or to operate the machining system will be made by the operator(s).
28. Operates multiple axis machines and sets up the machines to run unattended after programming is proven out and all tool functions monitored.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Must be able and willing to work 1st (7am-3pm), 2nd (3pm-11pm) and 3rd (11pm-7am) shifts. Shifts are not guaranteed and are subject to shift realignment.
Must be able and willing to work overtime, weekends and holidays.
