Job Title: Project Portfolio Leader 

Location: Remote

Job Summary 

Sprezzatura is seeking a dynamic and experienced Project Portfolio Leader to oversee and drive the successful delivery of a diverse portfolio of approximately 30 projects supporting a civilian federal agency. This leadership role will focus on enforcing project management standards, optimizing operational efficiency, and delivering consistent value to our federal client. 

 

The Project Portfolio Leader will operate in a highly collaborative, matrixed environment and must possess strong interpersonal and leadership skills to engage with cross-functional teams, project managers, customer stakeholders, and executives. You will be stepping into an active contract with established processes that continue to evolve, requiring both adaptability and strategic foresight. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

Portfolio Oversight 

  • Provide governance and strategic oversight across a portfolio of ~30 concurrent projects. 
  • Collaborate closely with the contract management team to ensure all projects align with contractual goals and customer expectations. 
  • Serve as interim Project Manager on new initiatives until full-time assignment is made. 

Team Leadership & Development 

  • Directly manage a team of Project Managers assigned to a subset of projects within the portfolio. 
  • Coach, mentor, and develop project managers to ensure consistent, high-quality project delivery. 

Financial Management 

  • Oversee financial health across the portfolio by guiding project managers in budget management, forecasting, and financial reporting. 
  • Monitor financial performance to ensure alignment with contract goals. 

Risk & Issue Management 

  • Lead the portfolio-wide process for identifying, tracking, and resolving risks and issues. 
  • Act as the primary escalation point and liaison with the federal customer on portfolio-level concerns. 

Reporting & Communication 

  • Ensure standardized, effective project reporting that meets the needs of both the federal customer and Sprezzatura executive leadership. 
  • Deliver clear, concise updates on project health, risks, and strategic priorities. 

Continuous Improvement 

  • Identify and implement improvements to tools, templates, and processes to drive quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. 
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing. 

Strategic Solution Development 

  • Work closely with federal stakeholders and internal teams to craft innovative solutions to emerging needs. 
  • Translate business challenges into actionable project or program initiatives. 

 

Qualifications 

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred. 
  • Certification: Project Management Professional (PMP) preferred. 
  • Experience: 
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in Project and Portfolio Management, primarily within the IT sector. 
  • Deep expertise with Agile, Scrum, SAFe, and other modern project management methodologies. 
  • Demonstrated experience with DCAA and GSA audits. 
  • Proven involvement in proposal planning and bidding for federal contracts valued at $500M+. 
  • Experience working in matrixed, remote, and hybrid environments.

This role requires you to live within the United States.
