About the Role

This is a brand new and exciting opportunity to become the first Waste and Recycling Schools Advisor at Nottingham City Council.

This is a new role in which you’ll be shaping how Nottingham City Council delivers a programme of waste, recycling, and litter education to younger generations, setting the standard for future initiatives and leaving a lasting legacy, working alongside the Waste Reduction Engagement and Clean Champions Teams.

You’ll be responsible for building a network of relationships with schools across the city, acting as the main point of contact for all things relating to recycling and waste education. You’ll work closely with teachers, school staff, and caretakers to understand each school’s unique needs and develop tailored educational tools and resources that enable and inspire children from KS1 through to KS4 to recycle correctly both in the school environment and influence positive behaviour change within their families at home.

You’ll have the creative freedom to design and deliver engaging workshops, assemblies, and activities, and to develop innovative materials - whether posters, digital content, games, or interactive sessions - that make recycling and waste reduction accessible and fun for all age groups. You’ll also support and encourage student-led environmental clubs and projects, helping children become champions for sustainability in their schools and communities.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

·         Familiarity with the National Curriculum and how to integrate environmental education.

·         Experience in creating educational content tailored to different age groups and learning styles, including SEND.

·         Ability to communicate at all levels verbally, in writing and using IT tools and digital channels as appropriate to a variety of audiences.

·         Ability to research and have awareness of upcoming recycling and waste management legislation and best practice and building such initiatives into service delivery.

·         Ability to build positive relationships, engage and motivate education staff, students, and external partners.

An enhanced DBS check with a children's barred list check
