Position Description
Employees in this classification provide support to the Ophthalmology Specialty Clinics by performing preliminary eye examinations and routine tests, and by assuring the steady and even flow of patients through the clinic. Work is performed within established guidelines. Works under direct supervision of ophthalmologist when performing patient-care related duties. Works under only general supervision in all other duties. Employees in this classification normally have no delegated supervisory responsibility.

Major/Essential Functions
- Greets patients, shows them to exam room, takes initial brief history, and records patient's chief complaint, any meds patient is taking, and any other pertinent information in chart. Performs vision screen, if applicable
- Opens clinic, checks, daily schedules and ensures all necessary charts are complete and available.
- Retrieves test results from other entities as necessary
- May perform various visual acuity and color vision tests; dilates patient's eyes, as necessary
- Assists Ophthalmologists with examinations and various procedures
- Equipment lens and exam rooms are clean and neat and stocked, as needed
- Required clinic forms are stocked and available
- Receives incoming calls, from patients, pharmacies, and other medical facilities, and handles, as appropriate
- Provides back-up coverage to front desk, as needed
- Coordinates with UMC or Surgical Center for Surgery dates for Ophthalmologist to perform surgeries, and schedules patients accordingly.
- Ensures surgical facility has the necessary documentation for the surgery, in a timely manner
- Prepares instruments to be picked up for auto-claving and sterilization
- Other duties as assigned by Head Nurse, Assistant Director, or physician
- Remains current with all licensure, certifications and mandatory compliances and trainings required of this
position. - Adhere to all TTUHSCEP policies, procedures and processes.
