    Job Description –PA-C /NP

The NP will be available during office hours and as scheduled for the triage, treatment, and/or referral of patients of Mid Valley Medical Group. When the appointment is scheduled at the time of the visit, patients will be informed of the identity and title of the provider. Patients’ preference regarding choice of provider will be honored as appropriate. Assessment, diagnosis, treatment and/or referral will be made in accordance with medical protocols on file at the clinic and the appropriate Wisconsin statutes and federal regulations. A back-up supervising physician will be available to the mid-level practitioner at all times for consultation and/or referral. Duties of the NP in the office will be as follows:

Well Child Health Care Checks:

Take a complete detailed medical and developmental history at the routine 2, 6-week, 3, 6, 12, 18-month, and annual health care checks; perform the physical exam; recognize the deviations from normal and record the data. The abnormal findings will be      handled according to established protocols at Burnett Medical Center Clinic.Perform  pre-school and physical exams. Review the developmental history and immunization record of the patient.Perform  health check pre-screening physicals annually on eligible children.Recognize      departures from good health in the above examinations under the supervision of the physician. Counsel regarding diet, growth and development, social habits, and      routine health care.Ill Child:Initially  see and screen children with departures from good health, taking appropriate history and physical examinations. The NP will perform rechecks and  progress examinations. Evaluation  and treatment will include follow-up examinations as appropriate.Adult Patients:Take a complete history, perform complete physical examinations including pelvic  and rectal as necessary. This will include the evaluation and treatment in accordance with medical protocols on file at the clinic.Acute Care:Will  be responsible for seeing and screening adults with departures from good  health, taking the appropriate history and physical examination. Evaluation and treatment will be in  accordance with medical protocols on file at the clinic.Emergency Call:The NP  will never be on emergency call without a physician available for back-up and consultation.Inpatient Duties:The NP  may do admission history and physical or other examinations as requested. Evaluation and treatment  will be in accordance with medical protocols on file at the clinic, and as  allowed by hospital or nursing home regulations and Wisconsin      statutes.Nursing Home: The NP may take routine  nursing home calls and examine nursing home patients for acute illnesses or exacerbation of chronic illnesses. Evaluation and treatment will be in accordance with medical protocols on file at the clinic and as allowed by nursing home regulations.Other: the NP will be expected to administer on the scene first aid and institute evaluation of variety of medical and surgical emergencies which may occur outside the confines of the office or hospital.Diagnostic Procedures:Performed will include drawing venous blood, pap smears, collection of culture  specimens, performance of tonometry, taking an initial reading of an EKG, and performance of routine labs.Therapeutic Procedures:The following therapeutic procedures will be routinely performed by the NP on the order of the physician or per previously established protocols on file  at Burnett Medical Center Clinic. These will include debridement, suture and subsequent care of      superficial wounds, removal of impacted cerumen, subcutaneous local anesthesia, nasal packing for epistaxis, casting of sprains and simple fractures, cast removal, incision and drainage of superficial localized abscess, electrocauterization of warts, insertion of intrauterine contraceptive  devices, and other procedures as delegated.
