Principal:  Washington Middle School

 

Classification:  Certified, Exempt

 

Qualifications:

Valid Missouri Principal’s certificate or eligibility for Missouri Principal’s certificate aligned to the grade levels covered within the scope of this position (7,8).

 

Such alternatives to the above qualifications may be appropriate to the scope of the position.  Examples include, administrative certification at a different level or other area with interest and/or eligibility for this level.

 

Reports to (Daily):  The Executive Administrative Team (daily/weekly)

 

Position Overview:  The School District of Washington is seeking an innovative instructional leader for Washington Middle School.  This is an 11 month position with the typical work calendar being from August through June annually.   Ideal candidates demonstrate the ability to form safe relationships with students and staff, effective oral and written communication skills, high level organizational skills, and the ability to work with multiple stakeholder groups. This position has a key role in fostering a positive, productive, and safe environment for students.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Key role in fostering a positive climate and culture for the building assigned and within the District as part of our overall strategic plan efforts.
  2. Build and maintain secure professional relationships with staff, students, parents, patrons, and the leadership team to continue to foster a culture of growth and innovation.
  3. Work with staff to implement strong instructional programming aligned to academic achievement, wellbeing, and college and career readiness.
  4. Maintain accurate records and facilitate record keeping with staff including, but not limited to, student records, staff evaluation records, correspondence, budget records, safety protocols, and other operational records.
  5. Ensure efficient operational procedures including regular, ongoing staff communication, training, and support.
  6. Lead the building in continuous improvement efforts for the purpose of supporting a culture of learning and growth to positively influence the District’s mission, vision, and goals.
  7. Resolve complex issues related to student, staff, parent, and public concerns.
  8. Regular and reliable attendance is necessary in order to perform the functions of this position.  
  9. Perform associated roles as required for building operations and to respond in the event of an emergency. 
  10. Perform other related duties as assigned or required for District operations.

 

Other Related Responsibilities:

  1. Provide ongoing feedback aligned with established evaluation efforts for the staff within this position's purview. 
  2. Attend meetings and workshops necessary for District operations and to enhance knowledge in areas of general responsibility.
  3. Maintains confidential nature of all school related material.
  4. Attend events outside of the regular school day designed to bring the public into the school, serve on a committee, plan appropriate instruction, and attend required meetings associated with the role of “principal”.

 

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:  This is an 11 month position (full-time) with applicable health and ancillary insurance, annual paid leave award, and defined pension benefit. Starting salary established by the Board of Education with a starting range of $83,165 - $100,000 depending on experience.  

 

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Superintendent using the principal evaluation tool from Network for Educator Effectiveness.  

 

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND VISUAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk and sit. Additionally, the employee may occasionally be required to push or lift up to 50 lbs as necessary for the safety and well-being of others. Lastly, this job requires the employee to have the vision ability to read handwritten or typed materials, and meet multiple demands from several people while interacting with other staff and the public.
