Opportunity Summary
The Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Technician plays a critical role in maintaining the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the Colton Power Project’s two simple cycle gas turbine facilities. The role involves performing startup, shutdown, and routine operations of combustion turbines and associated auxiliary systems, as well as conducting preventive and corrective maintenance to ensure consistent performance and compliance with environmental and safety standards. The O&M Technician supports daily plant operations, monitors equipment performance, and contributes to the overall reliability and efficiency of the facilities. Occasional travel may be required to assist with operations or maintenance activities at other facilities within the project fleet.
Your scope of responsibility as O&M Technician will include the following primary functions:
- Perform startup, shutdown, and routine operation of simple cycle gas turbine generating units and supporting systems.
- Monitor plant parameters such as temperature, pressure, flow, and vibration to ensure safe and efficient operation within established limits.
- Adjust control settings to generate electrical power in accordance with dispatch instructions while maintaining system operating parameters within regulatory and operational limits.
- Operate and monitor auxiliary systems including fuel gas, lube oil, air intake, and cooling systems to ensure optimal performance.
- Conduct inspections and performance checks on turbines, generators, valves, and auxiliary equipment to maintain operational reliability.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance and corrective repairs on mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems, including CEMS and plant control equipment.
- Troubleshoot equipment and control systems using manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical input to identify and resolve issues efficiently.
- Assist with troubleshooting and maintenance of PLCs and plant control systems, including signal verification, control card replacement, and wiring terminations.
- Modify or replace functional parts of equipment using hand tools and interpret technical drawings, diagrams, and specifications during repair and maintenance activities.
- Request parts, tools, and materials as needed, coordinating with inventory and procurement to ensure timely availability for scheduled work.
- Conduct all maintenance activities safely and in compliance with established permits and procedures, maintaining control authority for Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and ensuring documentation accuracy.
- Prepare and maintain detailed records, logs, reports, and work orders documenting operations, maintenance activities, equipment performance, and safety observations.
- Demonstrate proficiency in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for scheduling, tracking, and documenting maintenance activities.
- Support periodic testing and inspection programs to verify equipment integrity, reliability, and regulatory compliance.
- Participate in required training and certification programs, maintaining technical proficiency and compliance with safety standards.
- Travel occasionally to support operations and maintenance at other power generation sites within the project fleet as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Plant Manager to support the safe and efficient operation of the Colton Power Project.

Working Relationships
The O&M Technician reports to the O&M Manager and takes general direction from the Plant Manager. Additionally, this position will coordinate with all other plant personnel to ensure safe and reliable plant operations.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, climbing stairs and ladders, working from elevated platforms and walkways at varying heights, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds.
Power plant environment that may involve entering confined spaces, crawling through narrow areas, and handling hazardous materials, with exposure to fumes, extreme temperatures, and noise. Work may include high heat near equipment and varying outdoor weather conditions.
Some duties may require the use of protective equipment, which can include hard hats, safety glasses, and eye protection, air masks/respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, flame-resistant clothing (FRC), hot gloves, high-voltage protective gear, and fall protection. Fit testing for respirators may be required. Strict smoking restrictions apply in and around the facility.
Fitness for Duty
All personnel will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program, which includes a post-offer physical examination, drug screening, and post-employment random drug screening.
Work Schedule
The position operates on a 4-day, 10-hour shift schedule, with ten-hour shifts worked across four consecutive days. This position will occasionally necessitate extended working hours and flexible shifts as needed, including weekends and holidays, in response to schedules, workload demands, and plant conditions. Periodic callouts or “On call” status may also be required.
Occasional travel to support operations and maintenance at other power plant assets within the project fleet as needed.
Compensation
This position offers a base pay rate ranging from $40 to $60 per hour, along with an annual performance bonus.
Core Qualifications and Skills
We are looking for a skilled Technician with experience in power generation operations and maintenance, coupled with a proven ability to contribute effectively to team success and consistently meet performance standards.
- High school diploma or equivalent required. An Associate degree in power plant technology, engineering, or a related technical field is preferred. Equivalent experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
- Experience in power generation with proven ability to operate and maintain simple cycle gas turbines and auxiliary systems, including fuel, lube oil, air intake, and cooling systems.
- Skilled in startup, shutdown, troubleshooting, and maintenance of combustion turbines and related equipment such as pumps, valves, motors, generators, and control components.
- Knowledge of gas turbine operation, CEMS, electrical and instrumentation systems, and process controls. Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, flow diagrams, and technical schematics.
- Proficient in interpreting blueprints and wiring diagrams and documenting maintenance activities to ensure compliance and reliability.
- Strong understanding of safety practices, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, OSHA standards, and environmental compliance.
- Ability to work effectively with peers, contractors, and vendors to complete maintenance tasks safely and efficiently.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with clear written and verbal communication abilities.
- Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license and ensure it remains in good standing at all times.
