About HSS

Position Summary
The Senior Vice President, Chief Nurse Executive (SVP/CNE) is the enterprise leader responsible for advancing excellence in nursing, pharmacy, laboratory, and other clinical services across the HSS system. As an active member of the senior executive team, the
SVP/CNE will shape and execute strategy, uphold the highest standards of care, and ensure consistent practice and outcomes across all HSS entities and affiliates. Dual reporting to
both the CEO and COO, the SVP/CNE serves as the principal voice for clinical practice and workforce development, fostering an environment of innovation, accountability, and collaboration that strengthens HSS’s position as the global leader in musculoskeletal health.This leader will provide enterprise-wide oversight, advocacy, and accountability for nursing
quality, patient safety, nurse engagement, physician collaboration, and patient satisfaction —championing evidence-based, data-driven decision-making and measurable accomplishment of key performance indicators including nurse-sensitive outcomes, patient experience, and clinical effectiveness. The SVP/CNE owns strategic initiatives to standardize care, integrate innovation, and deliver on regulatory, accreditation, and Magnet standards, ensuring transparent progress and continuous improvement in
alignment with HSS’s reputation for excellence. They will partner closely with physician and executive colleagues to implement innovative models of care, drive operational effectiveness, and expand HSS’s reach while ensuring fidelity to its standards.
Key Responsibilities
• Strategic Leadership
o Serve as the enterprise voice and advocate for nursing and clinical practice across all HSS sites and affiliates.
o Advance HSS’s reputation for nursing excellence, supporting the system’s sixth Magnet
designation and beyond.
o Collaborate with senior executives and physician leaders to design and implement system-wide clinical programs and care models that improve quality, outcomes, and patient experience.
o Owns enterprise-wide transformation of nursing and clinical services, setting clear vision and measurable goals aligned with organizational strategy.
o Regularly present nursing and clinical metrics, improvement plans, and collaborative solutions to physician leadership, ensuring alignment, transparency, and rapid problem- solving on key system priorities.
• Clinical and Operational Oversight
o Oversee all nursing operations, including policy development, workforce planning, resource management, and patient care delivery.
o Provide executive leadership for non-nursing clinical services, including Pharmacy, Respiratory Therapy and Laboratory Services.
o Ensure operational integration and clinical alignment across new entities, maintaining
HSS’s high standards of care.
o Foster interprofessional collaboration and advocate for optimal role utilization, scope of practice, and leadership development among APPs.
o Serve as the primary executive contact for physician leaders and interdisciplinary partners regarding perioperative operations, and clinical service issues—presenting data, facilitating discussion, and driving collaborative solutions at the enterprise level.
• Quality, Safety, and Engagement
o Champion a culture of patient safety, evidence-based practice, and continuous improvement.
o Foster collaboration between nursing, physicians, and interprofessional teams to optimize care delivery.
o Lead system-wide efforts to enhance nurse engagement, professional development, and retention.
o Design formal succession planning strategies to identify and mentor future nursing and APP leaders. Partner with leadership to measure and improve patient satisfaction and clinical outcomes.
o Partner with leadership to measure and improve employee satisfaction and design and implement workforce wellness/wellbeing programs.
• Innovation and Growth
o Identify opportunities to leverage technology, data, and innovation to advance care delivery.
o Support system growth by ensuring nursing and clinical standards are implemented seamlessly at all new HSS locations.
o Partner with IT and informatics leaders to integrate technology that enhances clinical workflows and patient safety.
• Community Engagement and Culture
o Represent HSS Nursing at national, regional, and international forums, promoting thought leadership and advocacy.
o Build and sustain partnerships with community health organizations, schools, and public health agencies.
o Champions a culture of continuous improvement, empowering clinical teams to innovate and driving adoption of best practices across all sites

Qualifications
• Doctorate in Nursing or related field (DNP, PhD, or equivalent) strongly preferred.
• Master’s degree in nursing or relevant discipline required.
• Current RN license and eligibility for New York State licensure.
• At least 10–15 years of progressive nursing leadership experience, with significant executive- level responsibility.
• Demonstrated success in leading large, complex academic or health system environments.
• Experience with Magnet designation and sustaining nursing excellence at a national level.
• Proven ability to lead across multiple service lines (nursing, pharmacy, laboratory, and/or other clinical operations).
• Exceptional communication, collaboration, and change leadership skills.
• Experience leading digital transformation, clinical informatics, or technology-driven innovation in a healthcare setting.
• Deep understanding of healthcare regulations, accreditation, and compliance.
