Specific responsibilities include:
- Determine the sequence of machine operations and select the proper cutting tools needed to machine workpieces into the desired shapes.
- Revise programs to eliminate errors, and retest programs to check that problems have been solved.
- Analyze job orders, drawings, blueprints, specifications, and design data in order to calculate dimensions, tool selection, machine speeds, and feed rates.
- Determine reference points, machine cutting paths, or hole locations, and compute angular and linear dimensions, radii, and curvatures.
- Observe machines on trial runs or conduct computer simulations to ensure that programs and machinery will function properly and produce items that meet specifications.
- Compare computer printouts with original part specifications and blueprints to verify accuracy of instructions.
- Enter coordinates of hole locations into program memories.
- Write programs in the language of a machine's controller and store programs for future use.
- Modify existing programs to enhance efficiency.
- Enter computer commands to store or retrieve parts patterns, graphic displays, or programs that transfer data to other media.
- Inspect, test, or measure materials, products, and work for conformance to specifications.
- Measure dimensions of products to verify conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as rulers, calipers, gauges, or micrometers.
- Read blueprints, data, manuals, or other materials to determine specifications, inspection and testing procedures, adjustment methods, certification processes, formulas, or measuring instruments required.
- Sign off or reject fabricated parts and keep track of results to determine corrective measures.
- Mark items with details such as grade or acceptance-rejection status.
- Notify General Manager of production problems.
- Discard or reject products, materials, or equipment not meeting specifications.
- Write test or inspection reports describing results, recommendations, or needed repairs.
- Compare colors, shapes, textures, or grades of products or materials with color charts, templates, or samples to verify conformance to standards.
- Other duties as needed to meet Production requirements.
Required Education and Experience:
- Minimum of a high school diploma or GED
- Two years’ work experience is required to be proficient on the job. Prior work experience in sheet metal fabrication and/or training in CNC programming preferred.
- Must be proficient in sheet metal blueprint reading, basic shop math, and use of precision measuring equipment.
- Frequent and continuous light to moderate lifting, repetitive handling and maneuvering of awkward metal pieces is required. Walking, reaching, bending, and good eye, hand, foot coordination is all necessary.
- Comfortable with exposure to possible hazards, multiple pinch points and general safety issues associates with sheet metal fabrication. Works in hot, cold, dusty, and noisy area.
- Must be an energetic self-starter and have a strong sense of urgency; and capable of following tasks through to completion.
- Must be self-disciplined, highly organized, goal-oriented.
- Must possess the ability to multitask with a strong attention to detail.
- Must possess the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent organization and proven verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be self motivated with abilities to work independently and collaboratively with team members.
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
Supervisory Responsibility - this position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment – this job operates in a shop environment where exposure to heat is frequent.
Travel – This position does not have travel requirements.
