General Summary:Are you passionate about transforming underutilized properties into thriving spaces that benefit communities and drive economic growth? As a Planner Principal – Brownfield, you’ll work on a team to lead the County’s Brownfield Redevelopment Program and play a key role in revitalizing sites that contribute to environmental, economic, and community sustainability. In this role, you’ll develop and coordinate programs, analyze land use and redevelopment projects, and advise County leadership on planning strategies that shape Oakland County’s future.
What You’ll Do:
- Develop, manage, and implement the County’s Brownfield Redevelopment Program and related environmental initiatives.
- Prepare and present policy recommendations on land use, redevelopment, and economic development projects to County leadership and public officials.
- Identify community and local government needs, and design programs that promote sustainable growth and environmental stewardship.
- Collaborate with partners across departments and jurisdictions to advance planning, materials management, and redevelopment goals.

Required Minimum Qualifications:At the time of application, applicants must:
- Possess a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Urban Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Geography, Resource Management, Sustainability, Ecology, Public Administration or a related field.
- Have had at least four (4) years of full-time, progressively responsible work experience in city, county or regional planning, private consulting planning, private environmental consulting or other closely related professional experience.
- Possess a professional license, registration or certification from a recognized licensing agency as an engineer, landscape architect, planner, real estate broker/salesperson, LEED professional, Certified Environmental Professional, or closely related profession.
- Possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s or chauffeur’s license.
NOTE: A master’s degree in one of the fields listed in section 1 above may be substituted for one (1) year of the required work experience in section 2.
- Must maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s or chauffeur’s license.
