Specialty Systems, Inc. (SSI) is seeking a Director of Federal Services to lead and expand our Department of Defense (DoD) portfolio supporting the U.S. Navy and NAVAIR. Based in Toms River, NJ, this executive-level role is responsible for strategic growth, operational excellence, and successful contract execution across our Federal Services programs, including those directly supporting the warfighter at Joint Base MDL. The Director will oversee large technical teams, manage P&L for key contracts, and drive business development and capture efforts within the NAVAIR Aircraft Launch and Recovery Equipment (ALRE) and related domains. This position requires an established leader with deep Navy customer relationships, a proven record of capture and delivery success, and the vision to expand SSI’s presence across DoD engineering and digital transformation initiatives.
Job responsibilities will include:
The Director will be responsible for revenue growth, and successfully executing contracts, projects and programs to completion within scope and budget. Required competencies include:
- Leadership – Strong executive-level leadership with an ability to develop and drive business development and capture. She/he will manage large technical teams and will have demonstrated the ability and willingness to collaborate across organization business units to meet broader corporate objectives.
- Client/Market Development – Work collaboratively with other sectors to identify, lead, and capture new contract opportunities by leveraging relationships, with a demonstrated competency across all phases of the business development/capture lifecycle. Strong client relationships in the Department of Navy, specifically with NAVAIR are a must.
- Relationship Building – Expand SSI’s DoD services footprint through the development of new partnerships, targeted proposal strategies, and cross-sector synergies. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships across internal and external contacts as well as teaming partners.
- Business Management – Experience across all aspects of business management including profit/loss responsibility and accountability for results.
Position Qualification Requirements:
- 10+ years of experience in the NAVAIR Aircraft Launch and Recovery Equipment market defining, establishing, and leading solution delivery with a proven track record of success
- Established network of senior-level relationships within NAVAIR
- Broad knowledge of processes in the DoD/Federal acquisition environment
- Experience managing large, complex project teams, delivering solutions to government organizations
- Ability to identify new opportunities for government solutions; managing/supporting full life-cycle business development capture
- Ability to identify and qualify opportunities, develop capture plans and win strategies, and implement effective teaming approaches
- Sound strategic planning, financial management, budgeting, procurement, compliance, negotiation and risk management skills
- Excellent communication, presentation, delivery and leadership skills
- A self-starter, creative, entrepreneurial, enthusiastic and results-driven
Education:
- BA/BS required, Masters preferred
