About the Department

The Lynchburg Regional Airport is seeking a motivated individual to join our team as an Airport Technician. Position Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties necessary to deliver services to customers and citizens may be assigned.
• Performs mechanical maintenance work on airport buildings, facilities and equipment;
• Repairs desks, tables, chairs and other office furniture;
• Repair building doors, windows and floors and performs locksmith functions;
• Prepares surfaces and paints interior and exterior walls, building and grounds structures and equipment;
• Performs responsible electrical, plumbing and mechanical maintenance work in the repair and maintenance of air conditioning, heating and refrigeration equipment, electrical wiring and plumbing systems;
• Maintain time and material records, logs and prepares reports and work orders;
• Performs general laboring, grounds and custodian tasks;
• Performs routine security of the buildings and grounds at the airport and report unusual observations to supervisor and/or E-911;
• Operates FAA and City radios;
• Responds to FAA control tower calls for deer/animal sightings and trash in the air operations area;
• Operates tractor or other large and small mechanical equipment and cleans runways, roadways and sidewalks during snow removal;
• Performs scheduled airport emergency duty to include weekends and holidays;
• Repairs, inspects and maintains airport windcone, REIL and VASI systems;
• Repairs, inspects and maintains airport constant current regulators, beacon, obstruction lighting, AWOS system and runway/taxiway lights and signs;
• Performs tests on airport generator systems;
• Inspects snow removal equipment;
• Performs minor vehicle repairs;
• Maintains chain link and electric fence system;
• Repairs conveyor systems in terminal;
• Issue/cancel NOTAMS with FAA;
• Maintains PA system in terminal;
• Purchases supplies and materials;
• Repairs parking lot and road lighting systems;
• Repairs, inspects and maintains terminal/airport security systems;
• Responds to emergency calls.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
• Assists in the training of airport employees;
• Performs rough and finished carpentry;
• Repairs and replaces roofs;
• Build forms, pours and finishes concrete.
• Other duties to provide directly or indirectly services to citizens as may be assigned.
• When unusual situations occur and/or the City Manager declares a State of Emergency, all City employees may be required to accept special assignments and perform as needed to ensure appropriate service delivery.

Minimum Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and some experience in skilled building repair and maintenance work; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Other Qualifications

Possession of a valid Virginia driver's license and an acceptable driving record according to the City’s criteria.

Successful completion of all FAA employment requirements, including drug and alcohol screens, police records check, employment background check, etc.

Must successfully complete IS100 and IS700 National Incident Management (NIMS) training within 90 days of employment.  May also be required to complete higher levels of NIMS training as determined appropriate for the position.
