Pay Rate: $20 per hour
Position Description
The parish security guard protects parish staff, parishioners, religious education students, ministries, visitors and property by maintaining a safe and secure environment. They maintain a highly visible presence that opens and closes meeting spaces and detects, deters, observes and reports any inappropriate, dangerous or illegal behavior. Their presence insures a quick response to any incident.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Reviewing the Parish Room Schedule and opening those buildings/rooms that have scheduled activities in them. Making sure all other buildings and rooms are locked. Patrolling the perimeter of the Parish Church and Chapel during Masses to ensure safety for parishioners.
- Present at the building entrances to monitor and control who is coming into the building and closing the doors of the building once meetings have begun.
- Being a visible uniformed presence all over campus during their shift.
- Determining who should and should not be on the premise and escorting those who should not be off the premise avoiding major confrontations, whenever possible.
- Contact police as needed and report incidents when is necessary.
- Ensuring that parking is only available to those attending services, religious education, ministry meetings, Parish events. Ensure that no one should be parked in the parking lot and remaining in their car for more than a few minutes or using the parking lot as a home or overnight parking spot.
- Doing hourly foot patrols, in random order, of the Parish property including checking to ensure perimeter doors and windows are closed and locked.
- Escorting off the parish property those who are on the grounds under the influence of alcohol or drugs or who threaten the safety of others.
- Always being available on the Parish phone during their shift to respond to calls. No call forwarding the Parish phone to the guard’s personal cell phone.
- Treating all those you encounter with dignity and respect, regardless of the situation.

- Must complete and clear a background check.
- Must successfully complete Safe Environment Curriculum and CA Sexual Harassment Training.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must have a High School Diploma/GED.
- Must have the ability to work outdoors in changing weather conditions and in the dark.
- Must be able to read, speak, and understand English.
- Must be able to make judgment calls related to emergency and safety matters.

The employee is required to be mobile to, from, and within the Parish facility. Must be able to stand and walk for the majority of their shift and walk up and down stairs. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
