About the Department
Performs professional journey level social casework services for a variety of programs, requiring working knowledge of established theories, principles and concepts of social casework related to the assigned program area.
PLEASE NOTE:
While the full salary range is posted, this position has a budgeted starting salary of $3,977.64 per month.

Position Duties
- Conducts home visits with clients and family members.
- Documents all observations and interactions; maintains record of activities; writes monthly reports of activities with clients, collateral contacts, observations, client progress and functioning.
- Provides transportation as necessary.
- Assists and advocates for access and use of community services; organizes services.
- Ensures and monitors quality and quantity of services are delivered.
- Assists with life skills activities of daily living.
- Completes intake assessment; documents assessment and observations, determines best course of action for placement of client.
- Develops effective case plans, provides counseling services to families, assesses new abuse or re-abuse complaints and provides crisis intervention when needed.
- Makes home visits with clients, provides information regarding available services and coordinates the provision of the services.
- Testifies in court and makes recommendations on abuse and neglect cases, placement of clients, guardianship and investigations.
- Performs related work as required.
- Provides intake and ongoing social casework services to include assessment and treatment, with at risk adults. Adults who might meet the definition of an at-risk adult include adults in unsafe situations who have developmental disabilities, acquired brain injuries, major mental illnesses, blind, disabled or neurological or cognitive deficits. Elderly adults who are frail and unable to perform typical activities of daily living and who are in unsafe situations may also meet the definition of an at-risk adult.
- Receives and investigates reports of mistreatment and self-neglect.
- Receives and investigates of reports of suspected physical and sexual abuse, self neglect and financial exploitation.
- Referral to community service providers.
- Protects from mistreatment.
- Initiates probate proceedings to include court documentation, preparation, attendance and testimony.
- Works with community agencies in preventing and increasing public awareness of mistreatment and self-neglect of at-risk adults.
- Trains in the areas of adult protection.
- Advanced knowledge of normal and abnormal behavior.
- Expert interviewing and listening skills.
- Ability to evaluate body language.
- Ability to work with hostile individuals and de-escalate them or know when to physically remove oneself from area.
- Knowledge of the death, dying and grieving processes.
- Knowledge of Dementia/Alzheimer’s and behaviors associated with the disease and ability to recognize when a clients is no longer able to reside in community safely.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION:
- A bachelor’s degree from a higher education institution with course work related to the job responsibilities of child welfare social caseworker. Course work examples can include and are not limited to, the development of human behavior, child development, family intervention techniques, diagnostic measures, or therapeutic techniques required
- Professional, internship, or volunteer work experience in a human services related agency required
LICENSES/CERTIFICATES:
- Valid driver’s license at the time of application and a valid Colorado driver’s license at time of hire required
