Job Description

Recreation Services and the Intramural Sports program are seeking students to join our team beginning in the spring 2026 semester as an Intramural Sports Supervisor.

The Intramural Sports Supervisor is responsible for the on-site supervision of Intramural Sports Officials and administration of the various Intramural Sports activities.  Supervision will include multiple activities that can occur simultaneously.  An Intramural Sports Supervisor must have a comprehensive knowledge of team sport and individual / dual activities.  Experience as an official at The University of Kansas or similar situation is preferred, but not required.

An Intramural Sports Supervisor will work in collaboration with other Intramural Sports Supervisors mostly afternoons (beginning at approximately 4:30p) and evenings, Sunday through Thursday with some Friday hours.  This individual will have supervision from the Assistant Director for Intramural Sports and three Intramural Sports Program Managers.

The Intramural Sports Supervisor assists in overseeing the Intramural Sports program and activities by:

60% Active Supervision of Intramural Sports Activities and Events
  • Manage over 30 Intramural Sports activities and events
  • Creatively administer program Policies and Procedures at game sites and facilities
  • Serve as the first point of contact for over 700 teams and 5,000 annual participants
  • Respond to injuries, rule interpretations, disciplinary matters, and facility concerns with timely proficiency and competence
  • Represent Intramural Sports to the campus community in an exemplary manner
  • Assist participants, spectators, and fans when needed in a professional and courteous fashion
  • Supplement budget preparation by precisely documenting staff work hours
  • Attend, engage in, and participate in all Intramural Sports Staff Meetings
  • Ambitiously contribute to the development and evolution of the Policies and Procedures of the program during the end of the year program review

20% Accurate Documentation of Intramural Games
  • Comple all forms and documents accurately and thoroughly
  • Analyze and offer influential observations and feedback which lead to a better experience for Intramural Sports participants and officials
  • Make nominations for the Granada Player of the Week and Granada Official of the Week

10% Active Supervision of Intramural Officials/Umpires
  • Train, evaluate, and assess the Intramural Sports officiating staff of approximately 50 students
  • Provide experiential evaluations and support for all team sport officials to aid in their development
  • Continue to officiate all six team sports as needed
  • Attend, engage in, and participate in all Intramural Official’s Trainings

5% Court/Field Set Up

5% Other Duties as Assigned

Work Schedule

The Intramural Sports Supervisor will have assigned shifts mostly afternoons and evenings (shifts may be assigned between the approximate hours of 4:30p – 10:30p), Sunday through Thursday with some Friday hours.

Required Qualifications

An applicant for the position of Intramural Sports Supervisor must have:
  1. Prior experience and/or background in team sports/activities as demonstrated in the application materials
  2. Prior experience requiring the implementation of company policies as demonstrated in the application materials
  3. Current CPR/AED Certification or willingness to obtain within the first month of employment
  4. Current NFHS Concussion In Sports Certification or willingness to obtain within the first month of employment

Advertised Salary Range

Compensation starts at $11.55/hour with opportunities for advancement

Preferred Qualifications

The preferred application for the position of Intramural Sports Supervisor will have:
  1. Officiating experience as demonstrated in the application materials

Position Overview

The Intramural Sports Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the entire atmosphere of the various Intramural Sports events offered throughout the semester.  Supervisors must be able to implement Intramural Sports policies with effectiveness both independently and in collaboration with fellow supervisors and officials.

This is a semester long position with the opportunity for advancement.

Qualified applicants must have:
  • Availability to be present and engaged at the Intramural Sports Supervisor Training at a date TBD
  • Availability to work a minimum of three days/nights a week, Sunday – Thursday, on average

Position Requirements

During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

Employment Conditions

(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.

(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
