Summary:
The Intramural Sports Official is responsible for enforcing the rules of the game while also maintaining control of the sporting event by not letting player or fan conduct become demonstrative or domineering.
Essential Functions:
- Understand and demonstrate a proficiency in the enforcement of all Intramural policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate an understanding of all IMsport-specific rules.
- Wear proper uniform and represent the department in a professional manner.
- Inspect and assist with teardown of field/court of play at the end of each game- including trash clean-up and lost and found.
- Understand and implement (as needed) Rec. Sports & Fitness emergency protocol and procedures.
- Maintain positive and effective communication with patrons, co-workers, and management. Conduct a pregame meeting- Introductions, highlight points of emphasis, answer any questions, and emphasize sportsmanship.
- Report all facility abuse or participant discipline problems to the supervisor.
- In conjunction with the IM Supervisor document, through written (clearly legible) report(s), all ejections and serious issues. Reports must be detailed, including exact verbiage (verbatim) of the participant(s). Reports must be professionally written.
- Communicate effectively with the Coordinator of Intramural Sports, including but not limited to regularly checking e-mail and returning phone calls.
- Conduct oneself in a manner that is befitting of an official, member of Recreational Sports and Fitness, and student of American University.
- Other duties as assigned.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
- Part-time.
- Student.
- 10 hours per week (hours will be worked during evenings and weekends).
- Report to all scheduled shifts on time (15 minutes prior to the start of the game (s)).' If unable to work scheduled shifts, the official is responsible for securing a sub of equal competence.
- Attend all mandatory trainings and meetings. Work a varied schedule to include days, nights, and weekends.
Salary Range:
- $17.95 per hour.
