The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center has one opening annually for our ComACC accredited Postdoctoral Fellowship in Clinical Chemistry. Training focuses on the interface between human pathophysiology and the laboratory testing technology used to query the same. Fellows are provided with diverse experiences in clinical chemistry and laboratory medicine, which prepare the fellow for board certification by the American Board of Clinical Chemistry and to serve as a CLIA director for laboratories performing moderate and high complexity testing. Research opportunities are available and required for this posting.

Responsibilities

Clinical Chemistry Fellowship:1. The mission of the clinical chemistry fellowship training program is to provide PhD scientists and MDs with comprehensive training in clinical chemistry and laboratory medicine. The program includes advanced training in the diagnostic mechanisms of laboratory tests, and the relationship of said testing to monitoring human health, as well as the diagnosis and management of human disease. Using a combination of traditional didactic sessions, learner self-directed education, direct hands-on learning, and various oral presentations to program faculty and DPLM residents, staff, and faculty.

 

Program Goals:1. Foster collaborative learning between clinical chemistry fellows and pathology residents.2. Involve clinical chemistry fellows in non-pathology departmental consensus conferences.3. Provide clinical chemistry fellows with exposure to multiple laboratory environments4. Ensure mastery of core analytical principles and physiological basis of health and disease5. Facilitate independent research projects leading to publications in academic journals6. Facilitate active involvement in AACC, ACLPS and other professional societies7. Provide a dynamic learning environment to prepare the fellow to successfully attain certification from American Board of Clinical Chemistry.

Qualifications

  • Applicants from APPIC-member Doctoral Clinical or Counseling Psychology Programs.
  • All requirements for degree, including dissertation defense, must be completed prior to start date.
  • The fellow is also required to maintain a minimum clinical caseload of 20 outpatient contact hours per week, although opportunities to replace some clinical time with research opportunities may be available
