The Occupational Therapist provides therapy services to students with a range of physical, developmental, and sensory needs that impact their participation in the educational environment. Their services may include evaluations, direct therapy, consultation and collaboration with teachers support staff and families.
Qualifications
- Must have a Masters’ Degree in Occupational Therapy
- Must have or be able to obtain the North Carolina Board of Occupational Therapy license
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conducts occupational therapy assessments and evaluations in accordance with IDEA and NC DPI guidelines.
- Develops individual education treatment plans and IEP goals for students based on their educational needs.
- Provides direct therapy and consultative services in a variety of school settings.
- Collaborate with educators, administrators, and parents to support student access to the curriculum.
- Maintain accurate documentation of therapy sessions, progress reports, and other required reports.
- Participate in IEP meetings and other multidisciplinary team discussions.
- Provide training and support for staff regarding strategies and accomodations.
- Perform other duties as assigned

- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to communicate in both written and oral form effectively
- Knowledge of appropriate evaluating tools
- Knowledge of equipment and assistive technology available to use in therapy
- Ability to provide a wide range of treatment activities
- Ability to select and administer appropriate assessment and treatment methods
- Ability to accurately document sessions
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments
