Position Description Summary/Purpose:

The part-time Research & Instruction Librarian is responsible for Instruction in daytime First Year Seminar courses and for courses in other departments/fields as appropriate. This librarian provides Reference Consultations to students and faculty, by appointment and provides feedback to the User Services team regarding library resource needs (books, ebook, databases, subscriptions). This librarian participates (as part of the Instruction Team and Reference Team) in updating and publishing relevant Subject Guides in the library’s LibGuides.

The part-time Research & Instruction Librarian instructs graduate and undergraduate classes in information literacy and research methodology. Answers reference questions and assists students, faculty, and other members of the academic community in their information literacy skills development and research methods. Shares collection development and interlibrary loan responsibilities with the Research and Instruction teams. Administers the library as scheduled. The incumbent is expected to work independently but share responsibilities with other members of the Research and Instruction Teams. This is a 12 month part-time day position located on the Bridgeport campus.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

 

Education, Training and Experience:

  • One (1) year of experience providing reference assistance, in person and virtually, preferred.

  • One (1) year of teaching experience preferred, preferably in an academic library setting.

  • Primarily weekday, afternoon-evening hours, various schedules available. Some weekend shifts required. Additional hours available for instruction and project-based assignments.

  • Must have demonstrable experience performing reference, online searching and information literacy instruction. Experience with Business, Education, and Engineering research resources preferred.
  • Must be knowledgeable in library computer systems and academic library research platforms. Must have the knowledge of basic computer software/hardware operations (laptops and PCs as well as printers, scanners, etc.) and daily functions of working in a digital environment (e.g., email, word processing, internet).
