The Caldwell County Board of Education seeks the next Superintendent to lead its school system. Applications are due by November 7, 2025 at 5:00 p.m.
We invite applications from student-focused leaders who are committed to excellence and community engagement. Prior experience in school administration and a doctoral degree in education are preferred but not required. Candidates must meet the legal requirements to be a superintendent in North Carolina. The individual chosen will be required to live in Caldwell County.

The Caldwell County Schools is a nationally accredited district that stands as the largest provider of PreK-13 education for over 10,000 students in Caldwell County.

About the Community
Caldwell County is home to over 80,000 residents and is located in the northwest section of North Carolina in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The county is part of the Hickory-Lenoir-Morganton, NC Metro Area, home to 370,000 residents.
The county is bounded on the northwest by Watauga County, on the northeast by Wilkes County, on the east by Alexander County, on the south by Catawba and Burke Counties and on the west by Burke and Avery Counties. It is located approximately 69 miles northwest of Charlotte, 84 miles southwest of Winston-Salem, and 90 miles northeast of Asheville and proudly displays breathtaking vistas from elevation ranges from 900 feet to 5,964 feet. Today, there are nine incorporated municipalities in the County: Lenoir, Hudson, Granite Falls, Cedar Rock, Cajah’s Mountain, Gamewell, Sawmills and parts of Blowing Rock and Rhodhiss.

The Ideal Candidate
The Board seeks a leader who will:
• Work closely and strategically with the Board of Education
• Inspire and support academic excellence for all students
• Communicate effectively and foster strong relationships with staff, families, and community partners
• Lead by example with integrity, transparency, and a focus on continuous improvement
• Understand and embrace the values, traditions, and aspirations of the community in Caldwell County
• Identify and cultivate strong leadership within the system, while implementing clear and accountable performance plans
• Understand and manage school system finances (capital and expense) and budgeting with clarity and fiscal responsibility
• Provide planning and oversight of school facilities
• Market the school district to increase students attending the district
• Advocate for the needs of Caldwell County Schools
