We are hiring qualified freelance interpreters to provide on-site interpretation in an educational setting for a client in Boston, MA.
Assignments may include community events, educational support, and healthcare appointments.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate accurate and effective communication between English speaking and non-English speaking individuals.
- Prepare in advance for interpreting sessions by reviewing materials and understanding context.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to our Code of Professional Conduct.
- Collaborate with the LinguaLinx team members, clients, and other service providers to ensure effective communication.
Requirements:
- Previously, successfully passed Tier 3 Interpreter Training coursework (DESE or other DESE-approved training program) that prepares them to interpret in the education setting, with a focus on special education terminology
- Other suitable certifications can be from an interpreter training program that may be outside of the educational context (e.g., medical or court interpreting)
- At least 50 hours of practice interpreting in specialized meetings, with feedback from a trained interpreter on an encounter that is at least 30 min in length (feedback can be provided after observing a live or recorded interaction)
- Knowledge of terminology associated with specialized meetings in schools and those with a legal context (ex. IEP meetings, disciplinary hearings, ELE placement)
- 5 years of Certified Interpretation experience required.
- Proficiency in English and target language(s), both spoken and written.
- Required languages Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic and Haitian Creole.
- Adherence to HIPAA, strong interpersonal skills, and reliable internet connection for remote assignments.
- Ability to work independently and adapt to various environments and client needs.
- 18 years or older with a High School diploma or equivalent.
- Must possess valid U.S. work authorization.
- May be subject to a background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in medical, legal, or educational interpreting.
- Comfortable with simultaneous interpreting.
- Professional certifications (CCHI, NBCMI, or state court certification) a plus.
