Notre Dame Preparatory School, a Catholic, independent, college-preparatory school for girls in grades 6-12 located in Towson, Maryland, is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic candidate for a full-time long-term substitute position in Upper School Religion for the 2025-2026 school year. Position assignment dates will be November 3, 2025 to December 19, 2025 (6 weeks total).
Founded in 1873 by the School Sisters of Notre Dame, NDP is rooted in tradition but contemporary in education empowering its students to become women who transform the world. The school’s original mission, to foster academic excellence, spiritual growth and practice social justice in its students continues to inspire the approximately 800 girls currently enrolled in grades 6-12. The right candidates will enjoy working in a mission-driven, religious educational setting.
The Department’s education philosophy emphasizes one-on-one learning with students in small class sizes, through a variety of teaching methods. Notre Dame Prep is a one-to-one laptop school; the skills and knowledge to utilize educational technology is a strong consideration in the candidate.
Responsibilities:
- Teach up to six (6) Upper Level Religion classes each day, focusing on engaging and effective religious instruction.
- Collaborate with the Religion Department to develop and refine curriculum rooted in Catholic intellectual tradition, aligned with NDP’s mission, and designed to integrate learning, prayer, and service.
- Incorporate instructional technology into teaching practices to enhance students’ learning experiences.
- Participate in ongoing professional development to maintain effective teaching strategies and stay current with educational trends.
- Engage in the broader school community by participating in co-curricular and extracurricular activities, including advisory and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Religion, Theology, or a related field (required).
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Successful classroom experience, particularly with high school students, is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of Catholic theology and the ability to teach in accordance with church doctrine, including instruction in Scripture as well as Jesus and the Gospels.
- Familiarity with instructional technology and its integration in religious education.
- A commitment to Notre Dame Preparatory School’s mission of academic excellence, spiritual growth, and the practice of social justice.
- An active, practicing Catholic with a passion for teaching and inspiring young students.
Desired Characteristics:
- Strong academic preparation in Theology, Religious Studies, or a related discipline.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and departments to develop curriculum both vertically and horizontally.
- Experience with integrating a variety of engaging classroom instructional methods and utilizing technology.
- A commitment to educating young women in the tradition of the Sisters of Notre Dame, embracing the spirit of the Second Vatican Council, and fostering prayer and social justice.
Pay rate is $160 per day.
