Job Description
Peer Mentor Supervisor (part-time 17.5 hours a week)
Are you passionate about student success and mentorship? Do you thrive in a leadership role that helps guide and shape the next generation of students? The Office of First-Year Experience (FYE) at BYU is seeking a Peer Mentor Supervisor who is ready to engage, inspire, and support our peer mentors and first-year students. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who has a heart for student development and a knack for leadership.
What you will be doing in this position:
As a Peer Mentor Supervisor, you will supervise and support a team of 15-25 peer mentors, along with two to three lead student coordinators each term/semester. You'll play a key role in developing and executing training, fostering leadership, and ensuring that students have the support they need to succeed during their first year at BYU. This position is designed for a proactive, organized individual who can lead with empathy and creativity.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervision and Training:
Meet one-on-one with peer mentors every other week to provide guidance and mentorship.
Lead the supervision of 2-3 lead student coordinators.
Plan and facilitate weekly training sessions, ensuring that mentors are prepared to support their peers.
Evaluate the performance of peer mentors and implement strategies for improvement.
Collaboration and Innovation:
Work with various campus departments, including UNIV 101, to ensure that peer mentors align with university goals for student success.
Contribute to the planning and execution of ongoing professional development for mentors.
Develop and lead projects to enhance the peer mentoring program’s effectiveness.
Additional Responsibilities:
Assist with the recruitment and hiring of new student employees.
Participate in mandatory training sessions, New Student Orientation, and other campus events to enhance the peer mentoring experience.
Serve as a liaison between FYE and campus stakeholders to strengthen collaboration.
Innovate new approaches to support first-year students and improve retention and academic success.
What qualifies you for this role:
Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s degree preferred).
2-3 years of experience in education, counseling, student affairs, or related fields is preferred.
Skills & Abilities:
Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.
Exceptional time management and organizational skills.
Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to mentor and supervise college students with maturity and professionalism.
Experience in data analysis and office management is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
Some supervisory experience or leadership roles.
Knowledge of student development and learning theory.
Experience working with university students, particularly in a mentoring or educational setting.
Prior teaching experience and an understanding of university culture.

Pay Grade: 48
Typical Starting Pay: $20.00-$25.75
