Position Summary
The Chief of Staff serves as a strategic advisor to the University President, providing executive-level support, managing critical initiatives, and coordinating institutional priorities while serving as the primary liaison between the President's office and key stakeholders.
Essential Job Duties
• Serve as key strategic advisor to the President, managing priorities and supporting executive decision-making on critical institutional issues.
• Coordinate and oversee the President's Leadership Class (PLC) program, including mentoring students and teaching leadership courses.
• Serve as the University’s legislative liaison, maintaining regular communication with local, state, and federal officials; monitoring and analyzing proposed legislation; preparing position statements; and coordinating advocacy efforts that support the University’s mission and strategic goals.
• Serve as the official record keeper for the Office of the President, ensuring accurate maintenance, organization, and preservation of executive records, correspondence, and institutional documentation in accordance with University and state retention policies.
• Manage all aspects of President’s Circle.
• Lead cross-departmental projects that advance strategic priorities and institutional initiatives.
• Manage communications and relationships with the Board of Regents, including meeting preparation and materials.
• Plan and execute high-profile university initiatives and events, including RUSO Board Meetings, Presidential Town Halls, Commencement ceremonies.
• Assist in developing and implementing university policies and ensuring alignment with board directives.
• Coordinate internal and external communications for the President's office.
• Other duties as assigned by Supervisor or designee.

Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree with 3-5 years of experience
• Master's degree preferred
• Experience in higher education administration
• Strong background in strategic planning and project management
• Experience with policy development and implementation
• Demonstrated executive presence, including professional communication, polished presentation skills, and exceptional written and verbal proficiency

• Strong organizational and project management skills with ability to lead cross-functional initiatives

• Strong problem-solving abilities with capacity to handle sensitive matters with discretion
• Proven ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships across all organizational levels
• Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and deadlines
• Must have a strong work ethic and lead by example
• Must be a professional, credible and respected representative of the institution internally and in the community
• Demonstrated willingness and ability to act ethically and socially responsible
• Ability to communicate in a courteous manner
