Position: Library Assistant
Reports to: Local School Administration, MaST Schools Team
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent with education/ experience mix.
- Ability to perform clerical tasks with limited supervision and assume clerical responsibility for a major segment of the library’s operations.
- Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluation situations and making decisions.
- Experience necessary in using technology.
- Willingness to keep abreast of changing technologies and to assume new responsibilities required by the introduction of new services and equipment.
- Ability to communicate and follow instructions.
- Must exhibit enthusiasm and motivation necessary to produce high quality library service.
- Maintains professional appearance and behaves in a manner appropriate to a school setting.
- Performs reliably, dependably with a good record of attendance, punctuality, flexibility and time management.
- Must be able to lift 10 lbs.
Job Overview: Organizes and manages the distribution and collection of library materials and resources offered to staff and students.
Responsibilities:
- Assist students and staff in the circulation of library materials.
- Manages and organizes class library schedules and scheduling of library volunteers.
- Pulls library materials which need to be mended, discarded and/or replaced.
- Processes new library materials and periodicals received for circulation.
- Arranges and shelves returned materials numerically or alphabetically by information on spine label.
- Maintains neatness and order of the shelves and tables in the library.
- Answers borrowers’ questions concerning circulation rules.
- Develops literary based book displays and bulletin boards.
- Creatively decorates library according to season, holiday, or special event.
- Keeps daily circulation statistics and compiles a monthly report of library usage and holdings.
- Trains volunteers and student assistants in circulation and shelving procedures.
- Attends library-related meetings, workshops and in-service programs.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the local school Administration and the MaST Schools Team.
Terms of Employment: Ten (10) months, hourly
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of state law, administrative code, and the Board’s policy on evaluation.
