The Position:

We are recruiting for a full time Interventionist that provides a safe, nurturing, and positive learning environment for children. In this role, the interventionist will be responsible for providing one on one support for children in an assigned classroom. The interventionist will have a home site but will be able to assist in various counties based on the needs of the children. 

A minimum of a GED or High School Diploma. TCC or CDA and experience working with children preferred. 

Hiring Range -$12.25-$13.96(actual)

$10.19- $11.61(prorate)

Job Purpose: An Interventionist is responsible for providing individualized care and support for an assigned child in the Head Start program. The interventionist is responsible for planning and implementing all duties related to the classroom, children and parents as stated in the performance standards and on-site program review instrument. The interventionist must ensure that the assigned child receives individualized support while the child is present. The interventionist should be within close proximity to the child at all times. Strategies given by Licensed Professional Counselor, Coach, and Center Coordinator should be followed daily. The interventionist will have a home site but will be able to assist in various counties based on the need. If the assigned child has an IEP or Severe Behavior Plan, the interventionist will ensure the strategies noted on the plan are followed daily.  

        



Specific Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct daily head count of children and provide child supervision. Always ensure children are supervised and at least two paid staff are with the children at all times. The number of children in the classroom should be noted on the boogie board and dry erase board. 
  2. Follow an approved curriculum and daily schedule, and assist in development and implementation of daily lesson plans, which reflect activities and experiences to include all the requirements of the Head Start performance standards, i.e., fostering cognitive functioning by sequencing activities from simple to complex and from concrete to abstract. Lesson plans must include developmentally appropriate activities to promote social, intellectual, physical, emotional growth, and activities that allow children to make choices and be creative. Lesson plans must also include appropriate nutrition, mental health, dental health activities as an individual learning unit or as a part of other learning activities and experience. Must be distinct and easily identifiable, balancing teacher directed and child initiated activities which are developmentally and age appropriate
  3. Monitor, document and follow the policy for reporting suspected child abuse
  4. Observe, assess and record the behavior of assigned children. Records must reflect assessment tool(s) used. There must be evidence in each child’s folder that his or her program of activities and experiences are planned and based on an on-going assessment. On-going observations, recordings (anecdotal or other) evaluations of each child’s growth and development must be contained in each child’s folder
  5. There must be an educational and/or developmental goal established for each child. To reach the established goal – this effort must be documented by assisting in timely updating of each assigned child’s assessment.
  6. In conjunction with the Disability Specialist and appropriate professional staff, parents, etc. develop and implement an individualized education plan (IEP) for each child with an identified and confirmed (professionally diagnosed) disability, and an Individualized Prescriptive Plan for “children at risk”
  7. Assist to compile an inventory. Assist to request and store adequate and appropriate classroom materials and Supplies
  8. Assist Teacher with visits to the homes of parents or guardians of children assigned to classroom
  9. Assist Teacher to coordinate the activities of volunteers
  10.  Understands, respects and maintains confidential information regarding children, families, and the program
  11.  Assists in the implementation of the assigned curriculum designed to improve the physical abilities, social/emotional development, and mental skills of children enrolled in the program.
  12.  Assist Teacher to demonstrate on a continual basis appropriate classroom management techniques, i.e., establishing and maintaining organization, dealing with disruptions and behavior problems, etc. (The use of corporal punishment and isolation as disciplinary measures is strictly prohibited, and could result in immediate termination.)
  13.  On a continual basis, assists Teacher to advise parents of progress and/or problems of each child. Assist in the documentation of all contacts and attempted contacts with parents
  14.  Be courteous and receptive to all Head Start parents, encourage participation in their child’s developments at every occasion. Reinforce positive behavior shown by parents
  15.  Assist the Teacher to supervise the arrival and departure of children 
  16.  Assist the Teacher to establish, utilize and identify a variety of interest areas. Assist the Teacher to organize space equipment and supplies. Establish minimally:

  28.  Assist to assure that rooms are neat and attractive, and children’s work displayed at eye level
  29.  Assist to assure there are indicators or evidence in each child’s folder that his or her program of activities and experiences are planned and based on an on-going assessment
  30.  Assist in the absence of Teacher to maintain records in the classroom established by the appropriate Specialist
  31. To report to Teacher needs for equipment repair or placement
  32. Assist Teacher, with the approval of the Center Coordinator, to coordinate with appropriate community resources
  33. Promotes parent and community volunteers and actively seeks In-Kind donations
  34.  Respond appropriately to crisis or emergency situations that may occur
  35. Encourage experimentation, exploration, problem solving, cooperation, socialization, and choice making; ask open-ended questions and listen respectfully to the answers
  36. Always be within close proximity of the assigned child
  37. Complete Severe Disruptive Behavior Forms as needed and collaborate with the Disability Specialist and Counselor. 
  38. Comply with all strategies given by the Disability Specialist, Counselor, Center Coordinator, and Coach
  39.  Keep documentation of the assigned child’s progress with specific indicators on if strategies provided are working 
  40. Attend Trauma Informed Training annually and within 3 months of hire.
  41. All other duties assigned. 


Requirements

Education: A high school diploma or GED; TCC or CDA preferred; Trauma Informed Care and Training within 3 months of hire.

          

Other: Valid Georgia Driver’s License
