Regional QHSE Manager

About the Role

We are seeking a strong, pragmatic and accomplished QHSE leader to help shape and drive our strategic QHSE vision. As Regional QHSE Manager (Distribution Domain NA) you will play a pivotal role in meeting and improving standards, achieving compliance and driving a mature, continually improving, right first time and proactive safety culture. You will be accountable for setting and implementing the QHSE program across the region in line with our corporate and domain distribution strategy.  You will be prepared to travel extensively and need sufficient experience and international exposure to be able to deliver results across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Hiring & functional management and priority setting for the regional QHSE team in the Distribution Domain in NA, including HSE contractors working on behalf of the region / domain, in projects / service sites (in conjunction with operational / service managers).
  • Develop and implement the QHSE & continual improvement program for the region in conjunction with the Domain QHSE Director  and in line with the corporate QHSE strategy.
  • Drive QHSE standards across the value chain especially in project execution, life cycle services and construction environments.  (Support other Domains via internal arrangement).
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Actively support regional managers and supervisors in continuous improvement and sustaining a right first time & proactive safety culture.
  • Oversee effective implementation of QHSE management systems and processes and compliance with relevant legal and contractual requirements.  Develop country / region specific and contract specific ways of working if these cannot be accommodated in corporate or domain ways of working.
  • Data analysis, KPI development and management reporting using relevant reporting tools. Ensure data and information provided meets expected standards and actions result in implementation of corrective actions and prevention of future incidents.  
  • Ensure the effective management and follow up of critical QHSE incidents, including root cause analysis and escalation of topics within the region and that require actions in other regions / domains / business functions. 
  • Work closely with other regional QHSE managers and Domain QHSE leads to ensure consistency in approach and enhancing content and organizational adherence to QHSE standards and processes.
  • Take effective measures to assure preventive actions resulting from incidents and defects are identified, allocated and closed in a timely manner.
  • Fulfil role of HSE Manager to support delivery as needed.
  • Provide support to QHSE Domain Director as required.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 5-10 years progressive QHSE experience with at least 5 years in an engineering, construction  or infrastructure environment ideally within NA. Previous experience with automated material handling systems and design safety preferred.
  • Degree qualified, with degree or professional equivalent qualification in occupational safety & health and previous experience / qualifications in environmental management / quality management. Certified Safety Professional Certification (BCSP).
  • Strong understanding of regional legal frameworks and requirements and proven experience with implementation and management of international QHSE management system standards.
  • Experience with relevant OSHA & ANSI occupational safety standards and requirements and their application in engineering / construction environments e.g. part 1910 and 1926 of OSHA Regulations and risk reduction principles of ANSI B11.19.  
  • High level of personal initiative and passion for driving high standards of QHSE performance.
  • Strong capability and track record in complex problem solving.
  • Demonstrated leadership of geographically dispersed multidisciplinary teams.
  • Fluent in spoken & written English with excellent communication, training and stakeholder influencing skills. Other languages a benefit in line with regional needs.
  • Must hold a drivers license and be able / prepared to travel regularly to locations within the region and to Vanderlande office locations (including air travel).

Position Type:

This is a full-time, benefit-eligible position.

Travel:

This position may require travel up to 40% to 50%.
