The successful candidate will be expected to foster both existing and new relationships with corporate partners. This responsibility can include organizing events and meetings for corporate partners both on and off campus. The primary purpose of these activities will be to (1) improve employment and internship opportunities for finance students, (2) enhance industry collaboration with the department, and (3) increase support for various programs and initiatives within the department.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership, Creating Programs, and Networking
    • Improve employment and internship opportunities for finance students. This will involve:
      • Networking with business leaders and employers who have the capacity and ability to hire Finance students for internships and jobs
      • Coordinating among the seven different Finance student organizations to organize a speaker series each semester – this will involve inviting members of the business community
      • Creating and maintaining at least one Finance student job fair per academic year
  • Enhance industry collaboration with the department
    • Meet with Finance Department Advisory Board (FDAC) members to enhance their involvement with both the department and students
    • Network with business leaders and invite them to serve on the FDAC, or get involved with student groups
    • Network with business leaders and invite them as a guest classroom speaker or student group speaker
  • Increase support for various programs and initiatives within the department
    • Network with industry contacts to increase support for the CFP initiative between the UTK Finance Department and Dalton.
    • Create programs that might help fund student initiatives (e.g., company sponsored events)

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: 
    • Bachelor’s degree required at the starting date of employment
  • Experience: 
    • 10 years of industry experience, preferably in the finance (or adjacent) industry
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: 
    • Ability to communicate effectively with audiences including faculty, students, and industry partners.
    • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with industry partners.
    • Knowledge of internship and job opportunities in the Finance area.
    • Ability to create strategic plan to improve employment and internship opportunities for finance students.
    • Knowledge of the financial industry and its structure. 
    • Knowledge of higher education programs. 
    • Creative thinking skills. 
    • Oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education: 
    • Master’s degree preferred in finance or a related field
  • Experience: 
    • Experience working with undergraduate business students preferred
    • Related certifications are desirable (e.g. CFA, CFP, etc.)
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: 
    • Knowledge of Career Services software (i.e. Handshake)
