Job Description Summary
Candidate will be expected to properly diagnose and perform necessary repairs to diesel engines, alternative fueled systems, alternative powered systems, transmissions, drivetrains, steering and suspension, hydraulic and air brake systems, HVAC, aftertreatment and electrical systems on class eight tractors and construction equipment. An attractive pay and benefits package are offered. Uniforms are provided. Report to work on a regular and timely basis and complete the scheduled workday on a consistent basis. This position is expected to work primarily in a shop, with some work in a field environment.--
Job Description
Perform Repairs and Maintenance - 80%
- Have a sufficient ability to communicate, through sight, hearing, and/otherwise, to perform assigned tasks and maintain proper job safety conditions.
- Although working independently, work cooperatively in a diverse work environment.
- Work in an environment with: variable temperatures and humidity(climatic conditions), exposure to cleaning materials, petroleum products, dust, dirt, noise, and inclement weather.
- Required to wear personal protective equipment.
- Operate power and pneumatic tools.
- Assist coworkers by sharing knowledge and assisting with awkward and/or heavy jobs.
- Ensure all required information is reported accurately on work orders, preventative maintenance reports, and other documents.
- Perform preventative maintenance and inspections of the County fleet.
- Perform basic and advanced repairs and diagnostics on automobiles, light and heavy-duty trucks, construction equipment, snow/ice control equipment in accordance with Industry “Flat Rate” standards (where applicable).
Safety and Compliance - 20%
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
- Maintain current knowledge of new and updated industry standards and legal requirements.
- Participate in team meetings, which includes presenting information and status reports
- Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with corporate and OSHA standards.

Required Qualifications
Required Education
- High School Diploma/GED
Experience Qualifications
- 5 years of progressively responsible experience in diesel engine diagnostics and repair, including work on heavy-duty trucks, construction equipment, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and alternative fuel/powered systems in a fleet or commercial vehicle maintenance environment.
Skills and Abilities
- General knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, emissions and mechanical systems, repair tools and equipment. (Medium proficiency)
- Understanding of safety regulations and procedures associated Fleet Operations. (Medium proficiency)
- Proficiency using industry related computer software and other application software such as e-mail and contact management systems, and industry specific software. (Medium proficiency)
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. (Medium proficiency)
- Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. (Medium proficiency)
- Ability to accurately diagnose and repair mechanical problems. (Medium proficiency)
- Capability to perform basic math computations, and maintain accurate and complete computer records. (Medium proficiency)
- Ability to read and interpret detailed equipment schematics, instructions, and systems diagrams. (Medium proficiency)
- Skill in the use of specialty tools, OEM diagnostic software and test equipment used in the performance of the assigned tasks. (Medium proficiency)
- Ability to diagnose system failures on multiple types of specialized equipment. (Medium proficiency)
Licenses and Certifications
- CDL - Group A - Commercial Drivers License within 120 Days Required
- Drivers License - DOT MEC Medical Physical Upon Hire Required
- ASE Certified Diesel Mechanic Or Automotive Upon Hire Preferred
- DOT Air Brakes Inspector Upon Hire Preferred
- CNG Tank Inspector within 120 Days Required
- Must meet all requirements to be Power Industrial Truck Operations(PITO) certified. Required
This position is non-exempt from the minimum wage and overtime requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is therefore eligible for overtime pay.
