Grow and develop RGA's business in US Individual Health markets in a profitable and well-controlled manner. Assist other Business Units, as required, by sharing knowledge and experience as required.
Direct and develop the operations in line with Corporate Strategy. Develop business practices and a culture that enhances RGA's global identity as the leading global provider of life & health reinsurance and a global leader in financial services.
Ensure a strong local management team is maintained who can motivate and engage all talent to meet & exceed established goals and objectives.
Develop relationships with senior executives at key client organizations. The position should have the "natural fit" to deal with clients at the CEO or ''C Suite" level. Maintain effective communication throughout the Company.
Responsible for all operations of the Business Unit within established corporate policies. Ensure compliance with local laws and regulations, and with global corporate requirements. Ensure both local and corporate financial reporting requirements are met, and be responsible for the financial performance of the Business Unit.
What you will do
Set the strategy for US Individual Health, as part of the larger US Markets strategy, in order to properly grow and develop the business. Establish the annual and medium term financial and strategic plans.
Manage the Business Unit to meet or exceed the set financial and operational targets for the operation. Take full responsibility for all aspects of US individual Health operations to meet corporate financial and business objectives. Ensure proper procedures, infrastructure and controls are in place to be able to complete accurately and on a timely basis the appropriate local entity reports and management information requirements.
Identify the business strategy to grow profitable new business, in the short, medium and long term. Successfully implement business development strategies including appropriate sales, marketing, communication plans and pricing strategies that will result in profitable new business for US Individual Health.
Support the overall US and Americas strategies, combining Health lines with other lines of business to drive overall outcomes.
Provide direction to the key USIH leaders to set the marketing direction and philosophy of the Business Unit in line with Corporate Strategy.
Develop good personal and business relationships with the Executive Officers (“C-Suite”) with key target clients. Develop a good understanding of key targeted clients’ mode of operation and identify reinsurance solutions in helping clients meet their strategic, financial and operational objectives.
Ensure proposals and quotations offered to clients are appropriately priced and comply with local regulations.
Lead the building of the RGA brand within US Individual Health market place and play a proactive part in RGA activities in this area. Represent USIH in its relationships with major customers, rating agencies, professional societies and similar groups. Present at and attend appropriate industry conferences, associations and task forces, as appropriate.
Ensure that the appropriate infrastructure exists to support success in the market. Ensure a lead for each of the respective key functions within USIH is identified.
Develop a thorough understanding of RGA’s corporate standards and philosophy and contribute to their development within the RGA Group as a whole. Oversee and ensure compliance with corporate standards and monitor performance of the members of the senior management team.
Oversee and ensure continued competence of the senior management team to perform the roles for which they have delegated responsibilities including implementing corrective action plans as required. Implement locally RGA best practices regarding standards, practices, procedures and tools for each respective function.
Work collaboratively with the RGA executives with legal responsibility for the entities used by the Business Unit so as to ensure the financial soundness of these entities.
Lead, manage and direct the activities of USIH leadership and their staff, in all aspects of supervisory duties, including but not limited to hiring, training, evaluating, coaching and retaining direct reports. Foster a positive and engaged work environment. Mentor, train and develop staff to assume increasing levels of responsibility with a focus on succession planning.
Review and approve the appointment, employment, transfer or termination of associates within the Business Unit, ensuring we are building strong teams for RGA’s future success: closing skill gaps and driving the behaviors for success. Oversight for the roles and authority of each associate.
Ensure that all associates have timely goals and objectives in place aligned to the strategy of the business in a timely manner. Ensure that associates are competent and have the appropriate training and tools to succeed in their roles.
Resolve problems and conflicts arising between operating groups under direct control. Ensure compensation and reward systems are competitive and in line with corporate guidelines and the requirements of the local market place.
Ensure USIH has appropriate governance in place to meet RGA corporate and local requirements. Ensure compliance with all local laws and regulations and ensure reporting deadlines and communications with regulating authorities are met. Ensure USIH complies with both external and internal requirements. Establish, maintain and monitor appropriate compliance procedures for the business.
Develop and implement risk management procedures and policies and ensure monitoring processes provide adequate information on performance. Ensure a good knowledge of the regulatory frameworks of the business.
Ensure business continuity plans (disaster recovery) are established and tested, and that relevant staff have appropriate training to implement such plans.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Arts/Sciences (AB/BS)
Substantial direct insurance or reinsurance experience; sound understanding of local markets and financial drivers of the business. Required

The candidate must recognize the evolving nature of RGA’s matrix structure and be prepared to work hard to implement new structures and reporting lines that may take several years to fully embed and stabilize. A willingness to contribute to these changes and to deal with short-term issues is therefore paramount. Required

Compensation Range:
$294,100.00 - $443,167.00 AnnualBase pay varies depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and market location. In addition, RGA provides an annual bonus plan that includes all roles and some positions are eligible for participation in our long-term equity incentive plan. RGA also maintains a full range of health, retirement, and other employee benefits.
