This position provides overall leadership and management for the Center for Health Education & Wellness (CHEW) including establishing the goals, initiatives, priorities, polices, and strategic plan for the department. The director oversees the administration of the department budget, direction/coordination of department programs and services, and development of collaborative partnerships with the campus and greater Knoxville community. The director helps lead the proactive education and holistic wellness support of students, faculty, and staff for UTK. 

Responsibilities

Provide vision, leadership, management, and oversight for the department. Develop strategic plan and direct the establishment, implementation, and enforcement of department priorities, policies, practices, and guidelines.

  • Establish priorities for recruitment, selection, and training of staff. Supervise, evaluate, and assess staffing needs and recommend appropriate appointments ensuring organizational effectiveness.
  • Develop annual department revenue and expenditure budgets, advocating for and securing adequate funding for the effective operation of the department. Monitor budgets and make appropriate adjustments as necessary.
  • Evaluate and ensure departmental effectiveness and efficiency through on-going assessment efforts to examine impact of decisions, goals, priorities, programs, services, and processes.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships and collaborations with internal and external constituencies and campus and divisional partners to achieve the mission of the department.
  • Provide leadership for university and/or division committees and initiatives, and represent the University in appropriate state, regional and national professional organizations. 
  • Monitor current trends in health and wellness to determine potential application or impact to the department and university community.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Education: 

  • Master’s Degree: Public Health, Health Education, Social Work, Behavior Sciences, Higher Education, or related field.

Experience: 

  • 5 years of post-graduate experience in health education, health promotion, health and wellness, public health, or a closely related field. 
  • 3 years of experience working in a supervisory and/or management position.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: 

Knowledge and skill in health promotion, prevention, social change models/principles. Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with all constituents (students, faculty, administration, University staff and other members of the UT and surrounding community). Demonstrated ability to positively and effectively lead and facilitate campus and community partnerships. Demonstrated presentation skills (oral and written).

Preferred Qualifications

Experience: 

  • Work experience in a college or university setting. 
  • Grant writing and/or grant management experience.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: 

Ability to develop strategic plan and implement assessment strategies and reports. Demonstrated ability to coordinate and implement campus/community processes or programs. Specialized knowledge of working with health promotion in a university setting.

Compensation and Benefits 

  • UT market range: MR15
  • Anticipated hiring range or this position is $83,000-$95,000
