POSITION SUMMARY
The Nursing Manager plays a key role in delivering high-quality medical care to campers by collaborating with the medical team, providing coverage across camp settings, and responding to emergencies. This position supports both routine and acute clinical care, including medication administration, medical procedures, and on-call coverage. The Nursing Manager also assists in staff and volunteer training, orientation, and communication with camper families and outside medical providers. In addition to clinical duties, the role involves administrative responsibilities such as scheduling within the seasonal staff team, inventory management, and volunteer coordination. The Nursing Manager, in collaboration with the Nursing Director (ND) and Medical Director, ensures a medically safe and supportive environment for all Roundup River Ranch campers and staff through strong leadership, collaboration, and proactive care.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Job Responsibilities – Clinical:
- Collaborate with the Medical Team, Summer Staff Nurses, Medical Volunteers, and Camp Program Staff to ensure that campers are provided with the highest quality of medical and basic care needs.
- Provide coverage in the Depot and serve as a ‘float’ to assist cabin nurses/volunteers as needed in their cabins. This includes but is not limited to Medical Coverage at high-risk program areas as well as covering for nurses during breaks. Provide direct medical care and support as needed based on a cabin’s medical acuity and need.
- Respond to Medical Emergencies and provide leadership in collaboration with ND and medical team
- Work with medical volunteers to provide routine and emergent clinical care to campers on-site (including distribution of meds, medical procedures, lab studies)
- Provide overnight on-call coverage and 24-hour backup coverage as assigned by the ND.
- Provide coverage for roles and responsibilities in the absence of the ND.
- Provide updates and communicate with campers’ referring physicians, medical providers, and parents/guardians when requested or needed
Job Responsibilities – Administrative:
- Provide administrative support to the medical team and camp staff. This includes helping create Session Medical Schedule, Nursing Assignments, and working with Cabin Life to ensure appropriate spread of medical acuities
- Assist in performing 1:1 Volunteer Mid-Week Check-Ins and Seasonal Staff Medical Team Check-Ins as directed by ND.
- Assist ND with summer staff training (planning and execution), including teaching of camper specific diagnoses, emergency procedures, medical equipment and other training as needed. Also provide this training to non-medical and medical volunteers during orientation for camp sessions.
- Assist with medical policy and procedure review annually
- Follow camp standards of confidentiality for all camper and staff medical records.
- Work with Camp Program and Cabin Life Staff to ensure medically safe programming, and assist with planning and participating in staff and volunteer orientations
- Assist in the medical review of camper applications
- Supports Depot inventory and medical supplies management, including tracking, stocking, and ordering
- Assist in stewarding the MAC including preparation for the MAC meetings, communication with members, participation in subcommittee meetings
- Coordinate with the ND/MD to plan off-season visits to camp once monthly or as directed by the ND
- Assists in medical volunteer recruitment, outreach, and processing including volunteer interviews and communication
- Continue and expand professional relationships with other SFCN medical teams including communication, meetings, and conferences
- Assists in seasonal staff recruitment, interviews, and communication (in collaboration with ND)
- Act as a representative of RRR and liaison for camper families if a camper must be medically transported offsite during programming
- Communicates and collaborates closely with the volunteer and camper admissions teams to ensure camper family and volunteer questions are answered in a timely manner
- During non-summer months, maintain a clinical, bedside position outside of RRR to ensure continued hands-on patient care and clinical competency.
Requirements
JOB COMPETENCIES
Clinical proficiency with medical procedures, equipment, and protocols used at camp
Strong communication skills (written and oral).
Strong organizational and administrative abilities
Basic computer skills required
Be able to identify emergency situations, either by seeing them happen, hearing cries for help, or hearing the emergency alert protocol.
Have the strength, endurance, and physical skills to respond quickly and appropriately to emergency situations, according to written emergency procedures and plans.
Be able to demonstrate or participate in camp activities as they supervise and instruct campers: this will require the ability to walk, sit, climb, kneel, crouch, stoop, and stand.
Be able to move items or people.? This will require the strength and mobility to push, pull, lift, and carry.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's or Associate’s of Science, Nursing
Pediatric nursing experience required, camp experience preferred
State of Colorado Registered Nursing License (or licensure in a compact state)
Current BLS and PALS or ENPC certification
