Required
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) certificate.
- Some experience in warehouse operations and/or delivery.
- Possession of an appropriate, valid motor vehicle operator's license with a good driving record.
- Must have possession of, or ability to obtain, a Class B commercial driver's license CDL-B as defined by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles.
- Must have possession of and maintain a valid Department of Transportation (DOT) health certification and present at the time of hire.
- For those positions employed in the Food Services Warehouse, possession of a valid Limited Sanitation Certificate is required by federal regulation within thirty days of hire.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test and submit to random testing for alcohol and controlled substances [49 CFR Parts 40 and 382].
- Knowledge of modern warehouse practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures related to warehouse operations and driving.
- Knowledge of inventory control methods with the ability to track and maintain accurate records.
- Familiarity with automated data processing systems and supporting software as related to electronic warehousing.
- Familiarity with routine vehicle maintenance and inspection procedures.
- Ability to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to understand highway traffic signs and signals in the English language, to respond to official inquiries and to entries on reports and records [49 CFR 391.11(b)(2)].
- Ability to operate a truck and to make deliveries of merchandise.
- Ability to read maps and determine the most efficient delivery route.
- Ability to prepare reports.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to provide courteous and professional service when interacting with school staff during deliveries.

Major Duties/Essential Functions
- Receives shipping documents.
- Loads supplies and equipment on the assigned truck.
- Operates truck in making deliveries of items to designated schools.
- Unloads items from the truck and transports them to the delivery point and obtains receipt for items received by the responsible Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) official.
- Checks items being loaded or unloaded against delivery/pick up documents.
- Unpacks and distributes furniture/equipment throughout school buildings or department offices.
- Performs operator preventive maintenance and servicing on the assigned truck and apprises supervisor of any in-shop maintenance required to prevent breakdown and/or ensure safe operating conditions.
- Performs duties related to the courier functions.
- Prepares mileage, accident, and/or damage reports.
- Keeps warehouse items, equipment, property, and work-related supplies in neat and orderly condition.
- May operate hydraulic elevators, jacks, forklifts, and/or skip loaders.
- May use blocks, tackles, skids, flats, pallets, dollies, and other loading, transporting, and storing devices.
- May serve as a school bus driver, as needed, to support operational needs for the Office of Transportation Services (driver must meet all CDL requirements for school bus drivers - see job description for details).
