Role Overview
The Packaging Engineer will lead the design, testing, and implementation of packaging solutions across Wonder’s product lines. This role will ensure that all packaging meets food safety and compliance standards, enhances operational efficiency, supports sustainability initiatives, and reflects Wonder’s brand. The Packaging Engineer will work cross-functionally with Culinary, Operations, Supply Chain, and Brand to deliver packaging solutions that balance innovation, cost, and customer experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Design & Development: Create innovative packaging solutions for food products that are functional, cost-effective, sustainable, and aligned with Wonder’s brand.
- Testing & Compliance: Conduct line trials and validation testing to ensure packaging meets safety, regulatory, and quality standards.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Culinary, Supply Chain, Procurement, and Brand Marketing to align packaging designs with operational and business needs.
- Continuous Improvement: Drive initiatives to reduce packaging costs, improve performance, and increase sustainability, including material selection and supplier optimization.
- Supplier Management: Evaluate and collaborate with packaging vendors; manage specifications, quality requirements, and new technology adoption.
- Documentation & Systems: Maintain packaging specifications, drawings, and approvals within Wonder’s systems to ensure accuracy and consistency across operations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in packaging engineering, preferably in food, CPG, or QSR industries.
- Strong knowledge of packaging materials, manufacturing processes, and sustainability practices.
- Experience with packaging validation, testing, and regulatory compliance.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to balance cost, functionality, and brand impact.
- Strong project management skills; able to manage multiple projects and stakeholders simultaneously.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to influence and drive results across cross-functional teams.
Wonder uses geographic-specific salary structures, which means the salary offered may vary depending on where the job is located. The final salary offer will take into account various factors, such as the candidate's skills, education, training, credentials, and experience.
Our hybrid model requires 3 days a week in the office. That said, many team members choose to come in more often to take advantage of in-person collaboration and connection. You're welcome—and encouraged—to be in the office up to 5 days a week if it works for you.
