Job Description:

Job Summary:

The Pain Management Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a key member of the multidisciplinary Pain Management team, responsible for delivering high-quality, patient-centered care to individuals with acute and chronic pain conditions. The APP will provide comprehensive assessments, develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans, perform procedures within scope, and collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to improve functional outcomes, reduce pain, and enhance quality of life.


This role supports the program’s goals of clinical excellence, access optimization, and patient experience, contributing to the overall growth and strategic objectives of the Musculoskeletal Service Line.

Duties and Essential Job Functions:

Clinical Care:

  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations of patients with acute and chronic pain conditions, including history, physical examination, and diagnostic interpretation.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in collaboration with supervising physicians, incorporating pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic strategies.
  • Perform procedures within the APP scope of practice (e.g., trigger point injections, joint injections, medication management, etc.).
  • Monitor patient progress, evaluate treatment effectiveness, and modify care plans as appropriate.
  • Provide education to patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment options, medication usage, and pain management strategies.
  • Facilitate coordination of care, including referrals to Physical Therapy, Behavioral Health, or specialty services as needed.
    Program Support and Operations:
  • Support physician and procedural schedules by managing patient follow-up visits, medication refills, and pre/post-procedure care.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to streamline clinic workflows, reduce patient wait times, and enhance access.
  • Participate in daily huddles, case reviews, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to care pathways, clinical guidelines, and documentation standardization for the Pain Management program.

Quality, Compliance, and Education:

  • Adhere to all regulatory, compliance, and documentation standards.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities, patient satisfaction initiatives, and outcomes reporting.
  • Maintain current knowledge of pain management best practices, including safe opioid prescribing, multimodal analgesia, and interventional pain therapies.
  •  Serve as a clinical resource for nursing and ancillary staff.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  •  Must be comfortable working in a large public/county facility
  • Must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge in area assigned, and competency in assessment techniques, diagnosis and treatment processes that apply to the assigned medical specialty area
  • Must have good interpersonal, verbal and oral communication skills to work effectively with other health care professionals and serve as a resource to the community
  • Must be self-directed and take initiative to develop and participate in community activities and medical outreach programs pertaining to the medical specialty area
  •  Must be able to demonstrate patient centered/patient valued behavior

Duties and Essential Job Functions:
1. Coordinates the multidisciplinary care delivered to all patients, to optimize patient care.
2. Reviews patient medical charts to diagnose, treat, and provide care management and education to patients and families.
3. Makes appropriate patient referrals as necessary.
4. Monitors guidelines for the management of care and for ensuring the services are delivered in compliance with the guidelines established by JPS Health Network and Acclaim Physician Group.
5. Provides evidence-based and compassionate care to all patients as assigned to improve patient outcomes and increase patient satisfaction scores. Demonstrates patient centered and patient valued behavior.
6. Maintains a collaborative environment with other referring physicians, residents, clinical staff, and support staff to provide quality patient care.
7. Supports academic, educational and research endeavors.
8. Attends Performance Improvement Programs and Peer Review committee meetings; and is an active participant in the process.
9. Partners and communicates with acumen to build a positive brand and patient/customer experience for those who encounter JPS Health Network and Acclaim Physician Group. This would include health network staff, vendors, outside partners, patients, stakeholders, and local community leaders.
10. Serves as a resource to the community.
11. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience:

  • Current, unrestricted license as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state of practice.
  • National certification (AANP/ANCC for NP, NCCPA for PA).
  • DEA license and prescriptive authority required (or eligible).
  • Current BLS certification (ACLS preferred).
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience preferred; prior experience in Pain Management, Orthopedics, Physical
  • Medicine & Rehabilitation, or Anesthesiology strongly preferred.
  • Experience with EMR systems (EPIC preferred)
