Summary: The Accounting Specialist is an essential part of HumanKind’s Finance Team, supporting the daily operations that keep our mission moving forward. In this role, you’ll gain hands-on experience in nonprofit accounting—assisting with grant billing, reconciliations, and financial reporting—while learning from experienced professionals in a collaborative, mission-driven environment. This position is ideal for someone detail-oriented and eager to grow their accounting career while making a meaningful impact in their community.
Success In This Role Looks Like:
- Supporting timely and accurate grant billing, reporting, and compliance with federal and Medicaid regulations.
- Performing month-end reconciliations, journal entries, and fixed asset maintenance with precision and accountability.
- Assisting with the implementation and maintenance of accounting systems and processes.
- Collaborating with team members to identify workflow efficiencies and recommend process improvements.
- Maintaining confidentiality and adherence to organizational policies, including HIPAA requirements.

What You Bring To The Team:
- Strong knowledge of GAAP principles and experience applying them in day-to-day accounting operations.
- Familiarity with Federal Uniform Guidance for grants and an understanding of compliance requirements.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve process inefficiencies.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with a focus on accuracy and teamwork.
- Proficiency with accounting systems and databases; experience with NetSuite is a plus
- Related bachelor’s degree preferred
