Work requires identifying, locating, and marking the locations of Pinellas County subsurface utilities to minimize accidental damage or disruption of service due to construction excavation activities.  This involves considerable initiative in moving efficiently through the day's work assignments.  Considerable independent judgment must be used, as the accuracy of the locate depends heavily upon how well the readings from the equipment are interpreted.  The Line Locator Supervisor acts as a lead over the Utility Locators by providing close oversight of the Utility Locator personnel in the completion, performance, and accuracy of locate requests in accordance with state law; performing employee training/development; resolving daily operational issues/problems as they relate to balancing of workload, vehicles, and locate equipment; and providing troubleshooting help to the Utility Locators.  

This Utilities Operations Specialist 4 (Utility Line Locator Supervisor) position is located at:  6730 142nd Avenue North in Largo or 3900 Dunn Drive in Palm Harbor.  Work Schedule:  Monday - Friday ; 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

  • Leading and delegating work assignments and ensuring work orders get completed
  • Oversees the team's daily operations
  • Supervises and assists in the review and completion of work assignments
  • Conducts on-site checks to ensure the accuracy of locates
  • Acts as a liaison between field crews, contractors, and others
  • Enforces safety protocols and trains staff on regulations and best practices
  • Responds to time-sensitive or emergency locate requests outside of normal working hours
  • Ensures all locate equipment and County assets are properly maintained
  • Trains new personnel, prepares work schedules, and conducts performance evaluations,
  • Coordinates overtime and maintains employee time records.
  • Completes work-related reports and/or maintains operation and maintenance logs.
  • Performs related work as assigned or required.

     

WHAT WILL YOU NEED?

  • 4 years of skilled utilities field or bench work experience that includes supervisory or lead worker experience.

  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a State of Florida Class A Commercial Driver's License with Tanker Endorsement.
  • Experience with Utilisphere, FL811, and GIS (Mapping System)
  • Temporary Traffic Control Certification within the first nine months of hire or promotion date, or the position may be demoted
  • Assignment to work a variety of work schedules, including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.

Highly Desirable

  • State of Florida Department of Environmental Protection Class 3 Distribution System Operators License (DEP).
  • Cityworks experience
  • Knowledge of services offered by the County and other local community services agencies.
  • Fluent in any languages other than English, particularly Spanish.
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule when needed.
