During school breaks, we offer paid seasonal positions for students and recent graduates looking to gain valuable, hands-on experience in a healthcare setting. These roles provide exposure to pediatric healthcare and medical practice operations, making them ideal for individuals pursuing careers in healthcare or healthcare administration.

Seasonal Medical Assistant

Examples of responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Interview patients and/or family members for appropriate information and obtain vital statistics indicated for the age, gender, and type of visit.  
  • Review patient records for past medical problems, medication and immunization status, drug allergies, risk factors, and other pertinent information.
  • Perform laboratory testing and administer vaccines, analgesics, and nebulization treatments in accordance with established standards and office policy.
  • Observe, document, and report to provider and nursing staff patient’s condition and reaction to drugs and treatments.
  • Conduct basic parent and child education to include anticipatory guidance in accordance with office policy and as delegated by providers and leadership.

This is not a volunteer, internship, or shadowing experience—this is a paid job requiring a real commitment to scheduled shifts and responsibilities. 

Time Commitment

  • Must be available to be scheduled at least four (4) shifts per week Monday-Friday. Those who are able to work weekend and/or evening shifts in addition to AM/PM will be prioritized. 
    • Hours are not guaranteed and are based on business need. Seasonal employees are not guaranteed hours over regular staff.

General Requirements

  • Enrollment in or graduate of healthcare degree program or related field. Gap Year candidates are welcome to apply. 
  • Prior experience as a Medical Assistant at Capital Area Pediatrics is required. 
  • Active Medical Assistant certification and previous completion of the Capital Area Pediatrics Medical Assistant Sign Off Program. 
  • Ability to multi-task and perform well in a fast-paced patient care environment.
  • Adherence to Capital Area Pediatrics immunization and testing requirements.
  • Ability to pass a required background screening. 
  • Must be able to follow universal precautions, OSHA standards, and HIPAA regulations to include maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Basic knowledge of HIPAA and OSHA regulations preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.
