The CSS Shop/Yard helper will assist in the yard functions from the gate to yard operations including loading CSU’s and stacking of chassis. The employee will also assist in the Shop with repairs where additional hands are required. Other items of duties could include putting away parts and handling deliveries or even doing minor repairs or projects to assist in the production of the facility.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES:
- Pre inspect chassis before Mechanic works on it. Writing it up in Caliber.
- Post audit chassis when mechanic is done with repairs. Using Caliber for list of repairs.
- Inventory
- Ensure chassis are properly marked AV, AI, etc.
- Perform physical inventories as needed.
- In gate chassis.
- Inspect for damages to notate on interchanges.
- Inform drivers where to park chassis, keeping in mind yard organization.
- Out gating chassis
- Printing out interchange and handing to driver
- Assisting drivers with any issues, repair to chassis, or directing a mechanic to assist.
- Operate the Yard Hostler
- Move chassis around the yard to be stacked or unstacked
- Pull out completed chassis from shop
- Park chassis in the shop for mechanics
- Operate the Chassis stacker.
- Stack and unstack chassis to keep yard organized.
- Load and unload flatbeds when needed.
- Load and unload CSU when needed.
- Parts
- Unload them from the truck using small forklift
- Load any un-needed pallets
- Organize the container or keep it organized.
- Label parts
- Check in parts to ensure we are getting what we ordered.
- Break down and dispose of empty boxes
- Shop help
- Assist mechanics where needed
- Learn more about chassis repairs to eventually become a full mechanic
- Help keep shop area clean and organized
- Run to metal shop for fabrication needs
- Shop Maintenance
- Keep shop area clean and free of debris
- Emptying shop scrap
- Empty trash cans and oily rag bins
- OTR help
- Run parts or tires to OTR mechanics when needed. Some of the drives to locations would be 3 hours round trip or next day service without taking them stuff.
- Assist OTR techs as a “Fire Watch” when needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Ability to meet DCLI driver’s license standards
- Able to pass pre-employment drug screening
- Knowledge of Intermodal equipment a plus
- Ability to work independently without direct supervision
- Ability to read and write legibly
- Ability to work in a shop environment and outdoors in our Chassis Yard.
- Certifications in a forklift, chassis stacker, and hostler a plus.
